Actually I could see Matthews traded if his "offer sheet" is obscene. Don't know if Vegas has the cap space. You lost me with the silliness of Leafs being able to trade Marleau especially to another team with cap issue. And what a horrid trade for one year rental Pietrangelo or even a signed Pietrangelo.

Matthews is not worth (3) first round picks and (4) 2nd round picks especially considering it's going to take $12M to sign him in the summer and nor should TOR ever give him up.

If 34 signs for 12M+, I'll never call Patrick Kane a taxi driver beating a hole ever again!

You can pretty much count on Matthews signing for $12M. He deserves it too. The question is what team is going to give up all those picks while swallowing that kind of cap for 7 years?

Matthews will probably get 12 million but is far from deserving it, how many NHL awards has he won? Zero, the Calder trophy doesn't count since it isn't a true NHL award, rookies only competition. And I highly doubt he will win any awards this summer for this season.

Why would Vegas agree to this?

Vegas can sign Matthews to an offer sheet which would only cost four 1st round picks.

Offer sheets NEVER happen, call it NHL owners collusion but that's not happening. I last offer sheet I remember was the Canes signing Federov, opps Detroit matched. I remember Philly signing Gratton but TBay didn't accept the 4 1st Round picks and instead a trade was made with Renberg. You look it up, last offer sheet signed.

Off the top of my head, 2007 Kevin Lowe signs Dustin "Pancakes" Penner which cost Edmonton 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks.

So, to overview, one successful offer sheet in the last 2 decades, yet you boldly claim, it'll be easy for an offer sheet to steal Matthews, like it's a common thing. My "never going happen" statement wins.

The most recent was 2013, when Calgary offered Ryan O'Reilly a 2 year contract but Colorado matched it.

Or 2012 when Philly signed Shea Weber to a contract and Nashville matched.

Hmmm you've been telling everyone that you were right on the AM signing, looks like you weren't.

$11.63M for 5 years and I said $12M for 7 years in this post and said in others $11.5M to $12M.....I was pretty dead on versus a lot of Leafs fans saying $9m to $11M....yes, looks like I was a lot closer no?
