If Matthews wants to play outside of Canada and go home to America he would jump all over a 6 or even a 5 year deal to give him that option.

I would rather sign both of them for 8 years.....Matthews at about $12.5.....8 yr for $100 M and Marnerfor about $11M.......but it sounds like both players are leaning towards wanting 6 yr deals so they will be around 28 when UFA so they can sign another massive 7-8 yr deal at that point. If it is only a 6 yr deal, the AAV will be less as the Leafs would be buying less UFA years
