Good trade for both sides, which is always nice to see.

The issue for TOR is you still have to go through TBL. It's a shame one of TOR or TBL will be out after the 2nd round.

certainly a good deal but they're gonna need to jump through some hoops in the offseason to keep it all under the cap

Good trade for both sides in my opinion. Kings get two young pieces and a pick which is what they wanted. I think Carter, Martinez and/or Kovalchuk (Hello Columbus, Dallas or Washington) are next to move.

Good value but it's one more contract to budget. Lamoriello should be licking his chops for a Marner offer sheet ?

Hey genius, if Gards doesn't come back, he slides into his spot and makes a tad less than him. Do your research. Thanks.

Agreed. Didn't have to move a roster player. The 1st is basically a 2nd. He can replace Gards if he leaves in the offseason. Would still need to upgrade D if Gards leaves, but not touching roster players is huge here for that reason.

you have like 27m in cap room for next season and 10 open spots. If Matthews comes back at 10 and Marner at 8.5 (low numbers) you now have 9m for eight players. eek!

You guys had issues with or without Gardiner coming back. You just added $4M to the equation. Do your research. Thanks.

Kinda funny. I suggested that it would be a 1st and a B prospect (identified as Johnsson, Bracco, or Grundstrom) for Muzzin and I was laughed off the site for overvaluing Muzzin's value. Turns out the Kings got that and more.

Gardiner was gonna make more than he is now..he would have taken a "discount" but it was still gonna be more. Thanks.

On the high side of the range, but not unfair. However, weren't the Leafs looking for a right hand defenseman?

I'd do my own homework if I were you instead of calling other people out. Leafs were going to be tight to the cap next year...and that was assuming Gardiner's number was coming off the books and being replaced by $750k Rosen. Adding $4m in cap next year means there's has to be other moves made.

I'd do my homework if I were you. They will make it work no problem. It's clear he is Gards replacement, and I love Gards..but he was gonna make more than he was making now and plenty of people have made it work. With the cap minds behind the Leafs, maybe it's you who needs to do their homework.

I've done plenty of homework on the topic, kiddo. There was no plans for Gardiner to be on this team next year and his $4m was needed to re-sign all the RFA's. That's now $4m less to hand out to Matthews, Marner, Kapanen and Johnsson.

The fact you think it's as simple as saying he now takes Gardiner's money shows you haven't crunched the numbers...nor understand the impact of paying performance bonuses this year...and making sure you don't put Horton on LTIR this season....it's all intertwined.

The leafs will need to move out more salary cap one way or another

It's ok...numbers clearly aren't his forte.

@shaf_daddy do me a favor. Make an Armchair GM for next season at an $83M salary cap (very fair estimate if not spot on for the real figure). Then, pay Matthews at least $11M and Marner $9M at the absolute minimum. Sign your other key RFAs to bridges and try to round out your roster without making a sizable contract trade. Maybe then you'll open your eyes to how Muzzin (albeit a decent trade) just complicated things going forward. I'll wait...

Here's what everyone also forgets tho...the leafs have $3.7m in performance bonuses they are going to own to Matthews ($2.85m) and Marner ($850k).

If you put Horton on LTIR this season...you are forced to pay all performance bonuses next year...so that's not $83m, less $3.7m. Even if Horton doesn't go on LTIR...they still need to finish the season with $3.7m in caps space to avoid any bonus carryover. Adding $4m in Muzzin right now makes that very difficult to do....

as it stands now...adding Muzzin adds $7.7m to next year's cap. But the part-timers see a trade on twitter and come on here like they're heroes all the sudden.

Very fair point. I knew you guys had performance bonuses but was not aware of the actual number. Definitely a tight spot to be in mathematically

You're right. You clearly know more than the Leafs front office does. What was I thinking? Dubas, Pridham, etc be damned. YOU KNOW ALL...why aren't you in a front office, oh YEAH

Hey big shot...never claimed that...just stating facts that the Leafs have more work to do to make it all work. You think it's as easy as saying Muzzin is the new Gardiner and all is solved....then mouth off at other people on here who disagree.

Not my fault you weren't up to speed on the situation.

I am up to speed, bud. This front office knows the numbers. They have said and I believe they have the smarts in the front office to make it fit. So, kinda is your fault. Maybe trust the front office?

It's comical how quickly you are changing your argument on this.

Have I ever said I'm smarter than the Leafs' front office? No
Have I said I don't have faith in them? No
That there's no way they'll be able to make it work? No

I've shared information about the current cap situation this year and next and commented that additional moves will need to be made to make it work. That's all.

You're the one who's spouting off that everything is fine because Gardiner is gone next year and they make the same AAV. So I was disagreeing with you...not Leaf management. That clear enough for you or you going to change your argument again?
