It's all about the variable.

Does Toronto win the cup?

If they don't this is a lot of future to trade for a 29 YO LHD with 2 years left on his contract. LA wins

If they win the cup, who cares what trades they make. TOR Wins

It's all about that variant. I don't see how this trade makes them better than TB though

I think it could be a good deal for both parties. Muzzin is insurance for the fact Jake Gardiner most likely walks in free agency and he has played on the right side for the Kings.

Honestly a solid trade on both ends. Toronto's defense was an empty wasteland and a first/two prospects with some upside isn't a bad return for a team looking to tank anyway.

I gotta give Toronto the win here.
This basically guarantees that Gardiner is gone.
As for this year, this really solidifies the blue line. I'd expect him to play with Rielly

Unfortunately we will still see a bunch of whack Armchair GMs about the Leafs getting Parayko

I'd give the edge to LAK, as it seems like a slight overpay. But it's not a bad deal for TOR by any means. Maybe a 3.5-2.5 on the old trade rating scale.

Rob Blake, you POS!!! You just demolished what's left of out blue line.... Muzzin was the best defenseman on our team right now.

It's called rebuilding. A 1st round pick + two very good prospects for a 29 YO defensemen with 2 years left. It's a good trade for LA

Grundstrom sucks to lose, but he projects as a middle six Hyman type of player at best. Leafs must be betting Engvall can do it better to give him up.

Durzi looks good, but was never going to make this team thanks to the leafs LHD backlog, so losing him is a wash. Good pickup for the king's though.

A first is a 1st, likely 25-31 so ultimately it's no biggie.

I'm told Muzzin is very good and as he has two years left it means we can keep through crunch and sign him after Marleau leaves.

Overall fair trade. Kings are tanking and got futures, and the leafs don't lose any critical futures as they have other guys who can do the same role at roughly the same development level.

Pretty fair trade for both sides.

I don’t think Muzzin is exactly the guy that the Leafs should’ve gotten. But I’m sure Dubas thought this deal is a better deal than what he’d be getting on some of the RHD he inquired on.

Muzzin is still a good fit for them and checks off most of the boxes. Two way guy that helps out PP2 and the PK, plus stabilizes the top four. Gardiner is now good as gone too.

The Kings are getting some good pieces. Given that’s a team that doesn’t have a lot of youth, Grundström instantly becomes one of their best prospects. Two firsts this year is also a step in the right direction, and they might not be done selling off bigger pieces either

Kings DON'T NEED a rebuild. They need a RETOOL.

Sorry for upsetting you, but this trade speaks to me that the Kings are rebuilding. trading an Established NHL defensemen for all futures.

I'm already upset. Rob Blake is ruining the Los Angeles Kings.

Who wouldn't though such a good player as Rob Blake could make such a garbage General Manager.

It's a very good trade for a team that is rebuilding. You get two good looking prospects and a 1st round pick for a 29 YO defensemen. It's a great trade when looking at the future. It's gonna suck watching them lose, but rebuilds are always fun

Rebuild aren't fun when you don't need one. Dude, Kings core was just top 5 in each of their position just LAST SEASON. You don't rebuild not even a full season after that... it's common sense. What are our issues? Our core is great, hmm.... Maybe it's because their linemates are **** and don't help them. Big mistake here.

Kopitar 31
Kovalchuk 35
Brown 34
Carter 34
Doughty 29
Phaneuf 34
Martinez 31
Muzzin 29
Quick 33

How much longer can you sacrifice trading the future to win now? Would you rather a 2-3 Year rebuild where they can still get value for their old core players, or wait another 2-3 years and trade every ounce of future they have and then wait 10 years for them to be competitive again? Blake made the smart move here. Don't be surprised if a couple of these guys are also traded before the TD
