Don't think so man. Good value for TML on the Muzzin trade but that $4M just complicated it. We'll see.

I can’t help but think there will be more moves.

Seems low on all 3 contracts. It’s possible all 3 take discounts, but very unlikely.

I have to wonder if Nylander or Kapanen could be traded... I get Dubas has said he won't trade Nylander and that Kapanen and Liljegren aren't available, but with this trade something has to give. Maybe you buy out Marleau? I don't know, it seems odd even though I do like this trade for both the Leafs and the Kings.

Marleau is on an over 35 contract. his full cap hit happens regardless.

Ive said it once and ill say it again marleaus contract is set up to be traded this offseason. 6.25 mil would be able to give kapanen an extra mil and marner/matthews the extra 2 mil they will probably get

Totally forgot about that, thanks for the reminder!

That's assuming he's willing to waive his NMC... He knows these two years are probably his last shot at a cup. If Toronto doesn't win this year I can't see him waiving.

I can't imagine Zaitsev remains on this team. That's a big contract, and he's awful at getting controlled zone exits which is a skill Dubas said he wanted to improve the leafs on in an interview.

But who is willing to take on that contract? You probably have to swap one bad contract for another, which likely only saves the Leafs ~$1M or so. $1M can go a long way, but it doesn't help a ton with how big the Matthews and Marner contracts will be.

I may just be overly optimistic, but I truly believe that there will be a team that see's a shot-blocking defensive penalty killing defenseman, who will look perfect on their 2nd pair.

And if that doesn't work, they could always waive him, and scratch him on the marlies so that he'll agree to terminate his contract in favour of going back to the KHL.

Maybe, but I doubt it. He's more of a 3rd pairing guy paid like a 2nd pairing guy... I could be wrong, of course, and maybe a team takes a swing at him. You never really know for sure. The KHL option isn't a terrible one... Might look bad for the Leafs for any future Russians looking to come over here, though.

Yea, It's a little ruthless, and I'd prefer that it wouldn't end that way, but if it had to be done, I think he'd leave.

Yeah Marleau could save the roster by waiving his NTC but it won't happen. Defense will be thin already with Hainsey's and Gardiner's departure.

I agree one of those two will need to be sacrificed. With all the fuzz around his contract negociation and lack of contribution this year, I bet Nylander will be traded in the summertime with his now affordable contract.

Also, no way Matthews and Marner (8M!) sign these cheap contracts. Add a couple of million each...

I'd love to see Nylander in a Wild sweater... Problem is the Leafs would want Dumba and we'd probably only offer Spurgeon (have to be half retention on his salary) and say Zucker. I think the Matthews and Marner contracts will come down to term... If they're 5-6 year deals then this could be a more realistic cap hit, but at 8 years I completely agree with you.

I don't want to give up Nylander for any of the wild D-men but for what it's worth IMO Spurgeon >> Dumba
