Description

I have really liked the Dermott and Zaitsev pairing, and I think that in an ideal situation we would keep them together. Zaitsev looked WAYYYY better with Dermott than Gards, and I think Dermott had more options with Zaitsev than Oz.

However, the leafs need to reduce Hainsey's minutes, and they need to put him on the third pair if they want to get the best of him. Also, his leadership would be very useful with Dermott, and he will have the ability to play PK minutes without killing his legs.

Maybe for the first game with muzzin they run:
Rielly- Hainsey (One more game i swear lol)
Gardiner - Muzzin
Dermott - Zaitzev

Just to give Muzzin a break from the top end minutes while he transitions. The other option is to switch Muzzin and Hainsey, but the idea of a Hainsey and Gardiner pairing is not very enticing.

This lineup also assumes that Johnsson and Gardiner are fully back to their ice-time. If Johnsson is still out there is a different set of lines I will be posting.

i see alot of people liking the muzzin deal but it should be noted that gardiner kinda makes this not make sense. you cant trade him at the deadline because you just went out to add depth so that doesnt make sense . then your just going to loose him to free agency unless you can offload marleau or a key forward. its like paying 2 1st and 2 2nds. am i not looking at this right?

I see your point, but IMO Dubas has a plan. Either trade someone (Zaitsev or Brown) to make room for Gardiner to re-sign, or let Gardiner go and sign someone like Jensen (Cheaper but pretty good, RHD too). That or another trade I can't even guess. But either way, he's got a plan or he wouldn't have done it.

yeah i dont doubt theyll get someone to fill his spot i just think itd be really bad if they just let him walk but also bad if they trade him because of the cap problem/ depth for this coming playoffs. itll be interesting though
