Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2019
Published: Jan. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Paid a high price for RFA's to prove we can get the cap to work. Trades might not be the most well recieved as I'm not sure where SJS and PHI old the value of the players involved. EDM trade has potential for win/win for both teams. ARI trade is just to get Horton's cap off the books in real life he would be on LTIR.

What else are you adding to the Horton deal? Arizona isn't just giving up a 7th round pick to take on Horton's contract. You'll need to add a pick or prospects as well. And that Gudas for Zaitsev is horrendous Zaitsev still has 5 more years @ $4.5 million per for Gudas with 1 more year left it's going to take far more then a 2020 3rd rounder to move that contract.

Also good luck getting someone to take Marleau's contract for you. You care going to be needing to part with some serious picks/players to get these off your books.

Capfriendly would not let me put Horton on LTIR i am assuming because this is a "future" team. so the ARI trade isn't real just used it to get the cap to go away. In reality he would still be on the team but LTIRetired. PHI is a bit of stretch but i believe a 2nd instead of a 3rd could make it work if needed. Zaitsev is being misused on the leafs, his game is more similar to Gardiners mobile puck mover while he is being used as a shut down guy for the leafs.

No team, especially a team with cap issues like the Leafs or San Jose wants Marleau' cap hit for next year.
I never understand these Zaitsev trades. If he isn't NHL value at 4.5m no team would trade for him. If he OK value, why would the Leafs trade him for a not better player with less term.

Just for future reference,,,,99% of the time, LTIRs do not affect a team cap at all. Teams are not "cap punished" for having long term injured players. At times it has become an obsession with some folks on this site, they think have to go crazy trading LTIRs to Arizona.
