This is all so overblown, trade Trouba and there's the cap savings you need. Other free agents like Myers, Chairot and Tanev can just be allowed to walk cause the Jets can't afford to give them the raises they'll want. The Jets prospect pool is deep enough to replace those guys internally. Want more cap savings? Trade Andrew Copp for a couple picks and replace him internally as well. Worried all the young guys aren't gonna be ready to contribute? Well lots of experienced NHL veterans are always looking for jobs every season, find the next Alex Chiasson to give a PTO to and if he has a good camp sign him to a league minimum contract. There's ways around the impending cap crunch, signing every RFA and UFA you have isn't practical in a salary cap world, it's just the way it is that you have to say goodbye to some guys.
The GM's that overpay depth players and refuse to let some guys go are the ones that get their teams in cap trouble. If Chevy and his team know what they're doing they'll figure this out quite easily, this will be Jets managements biggest test so far.
