Can we all take a moment to realize how screwed the jets are for cap

Created by: Cardiak
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2019
Published: Jan. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is the jets losing some free agents along with not even having a real prospect pipeline. Everyone is talking about how the leafs are going to get shafted if there are matched offer sheets but so would this team and they would match laine up to 12 and Conner up to 8 probably with trouba up to 8 to so this team is definitely losing Tyler Myers

Trouba's probably gonna sign just for one year.

Laine's been pretty bad, no chance he's getting $10M now. Maybe around the same contract as Wheeler has.

And Lemieux is overpaid.

Best options are to trade guys like Perreault and Lowry for picks or trade Kulikov to a team with some cap space and add a sweetener i'd guess (even though he has an NTC) I really like the Jets and I know how it feels to have my Team in cap trouble haha. Also you could maybe talk Laine down to 9ish since hes been a little quiet this year.

I think Trouba will only be agreeing to a 1 year deal, and his cap number will likely be around 6 million

And Laine should get less than 10, more like 9 max IMO

Agree with everyone here Trouba probably signs a 1 year $6 million contract and is probably dealt at the NHL draft to a team that he's willing to sign an extension with. And Laine probably gets around $9 million per over 7 or 8 years or so.

This is all so overblown, trade Trouba and there's the cap savings you need. Other free agents like Myers, Chairot and Tanev can just be allowed to walk cause the Jets can't afford to give them the raises they'll want. The Jets prospect pool is deep enough to replace those guys internally. Want more cap savings? Trade Andrew Copp for a couple picks and replace him internally as well. Worried all the young guys aren't gonna be ready to contribute? Well lots of experienced NHL veterans are always looking for jobs every season, find the next Alex Chiasson to give a PTO to and if he has a good camp sign him to a league minimum contract. There's ways around the impending cap crunch, signing every RFA and UFA you have isn't practical in a salary cap world, it's just the way it is that you have to say goodbye to some guys.
The GM's that overpay depth players and refuse to let some guys go are the ones that get their teams in cap trouble. If Chevy and his team know what they're doing they'll figure this out quite easily, this will be Jets managements biggest test so far.
