Does the trade come with a time machine that will take 10 years off Keith's age? Oh no it doesn't? So its going to cost a top defensive prospect to obtain a 35 year old player who is declining? Sure he's still an extremely good defenceman but 35.

You may get a first from a team or two, but TO would be offering Brown and a 3rd or something else that isn't very appetizing.

Try different team like Montreal. Rasmus Sandin has more value to Toronto. He is as close to untouchable as it gets. I would not sacrifice whole career of potentially great top-4 defender for 2 years of Keith being somehow effective and then having his contract forever with him being uneffective..

You know nothing about hockey. You don't trade an 18 year old dman who is playing great in the AHL, and has the potential to be better than Duncan Keith, for a 35 year old.

Yeah... Brown and a 3rd doesn't get you Keith. You have to take into consideration how risky it is for the Hawks to trade Keith due to his recapture penalty contract, if he stays with the Hawks they have much more control over that. Regardless, 35 year old Keith is still a top 4 defensemen on any team besides maybe Nashville. I realize Toronto wouldn't want to part ways with Sandin but that's likely who the Hawks would ask for. They would take back salary, too, but not just a 3rd liner.

I know that this package doesn't get you a top 4 defensemen. I can also guarantee you Sandin will not win 2 Norris trophies, 2 gold medals, a Conn Smythe, AND 3 cups. Good try though. Sandin is a great player, I get it, I'm just saying the Hawks would likely ask for him because of the risk of the recapture penalty.

This wasn't my post. I get it you would not trade Sandin, Dubas probably wouldn't as well. I'm saying Bowman would likely ask for Sandin, or even Kapanen. The recapture penalty is risky for Chicago.

Oh surely he would. I think the team like Montreal would be willing to offer talented guys for Keith to get top pairing of 2010 back again grin there would be suiters if he wants to go.

35 years old. If he had 1 or even 3 years left, then possibly you could get a nice return, but with his contract's term you will be left wanting.

About as risky as keeping Keith... leafs donn’t want 40 year old Keith. If he were ufa next year he may actually be worth more...

I agree, trust me. All I'm saying is the package above still does not get you Duncan Keith at $4 million...

I didn't make this post. I was responding to the trade offer above and with the retained salary it is not enough for Keith, plain and simple. If we're retaining on that contract then it's going to cost Toronto. I'm not advocating that the Leafs should go after Keith.

I was responding to the fact you said it was risky... does it matter if Chicago has the recapture or the contract? This may be your last chance to try and get Keith off the books. If I’m the hawks I take what I can get for him.

If he retires with another team then it's on the Hawks... therefore it's risky to trade him. They would probably try and LTIR him if he's still under contract with the Hawks and cannot play. It's risky to trade him away and I'm sure Bowman knows this too, therefore a high asking price.

You can not ltir a retired player... they actually have to be examined.

I do see your point but if Keith is unable to play due to injury and was going to retire they could certainly take back his contract and put him on ltir.

After this season keith is still owed 10m on his contract. If he decides to retire without injury he forfeits that money and hawks are hit with recapture no matter which team owns his rights.

Leafs dont have the assets to get Keith and they wouldn't want his contract for long term.

Has the potential to better than Duncan Keith....... This is probably one of the most delusional Leaf fan take I have ever seen

Okay guys I am hearing all of you, but in what world is Keiths contract not worth this return. His contract is undesired, there are questions of his health, his age. I think this package is more than enough. I understand what some of you are saying inregards to what we are giving up, but tell me Reilly, Muzzin, Gardiner, Keith, Dermott and Hainsey are not enough to bring home a cup!?

How can you know he won't win those? Can you see the future. Remember, Pavel Datsyuk was a 7th rounder.

He probably won't be, but you never know. Pavel Datsyuk was a 7th rounder.
