Barkov would never get traded

Created by: Eli
Team: 2018-19 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2019
Published: Feb. 2, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
But I've said that about Bjugstad...

...and with Eller injured for a moment, the Caps could indeed use a depth center...but these terrible ideas of Brassard for Burakovsky just don't make long term sense, while Pittsburgh is trading their junk drawer for good young players on long term contracts. If Florida wants playoff heroes and draft picks for good young players on long term contracts, that makes sense for Washington, too.

Barkov is significantly better than Bjugstad.

If for some reason Barkov was traded to Washington, it wouldn't be for that pile of crap.

I mean... here's how big Florida wins this trade:

Burakovsky at 21 put up 2.40 points/60 on a second line with Marcus Johansson. Barkov averages 2.37 points/60, career. So as soon as Burakovsky gets healthy, and plays with top six linemates again, Florida has more offense.

Jaskin leads the Caps' forwards in corsi and XGF%, and he's cheap.

Bowey is a future top pair defenseman, who was 11th in points among rookie defensemen last year, until the trade deadline when the Caps grabbed Kempny and benched him.

Barber is the current AHL player of the month, and has 38 points. He's ready to move up and will eventually be a decent NHL wing.

Plus I gave twice as much total value in picks as Pittsburgh gave for Bjugstad.

You got more jokes? Or anything about hockey to add?

My big question, as a Caps fan, is whether there's a chance Florida would throw in a depth wing like Brouwer or Malgin?

Or whether it makes more sense to keep Florida's center depth intact for next year by clearing the board and offering Eller, Johansen, 1st?

Barkov is one of the 3 best 2 way centers in the league and has one of the best contracts. Burakovsky is about to get dumped for mid round picks. Its nonsense. The equivalent of this trade is zemgus girgensons, brendan guhle, danny oregan, johan larsson and the same draft picks for kuznetsov. of course you wouldn't do that. its garbage.

Thanks for your thoughtful analysis, totally unbiased by years of Caps/Flyers rivalry.

Funny how after the Caps finally win just one playoff series against the Lightning, Lightning fans have time to check up on what the Caps are up to.

I've already explained how this is a win for Florida. If you have nothing to add, have a wonderful day.

Man, no one deals elite players for 3rd liners and below that without no elite prospects coming.
Bowey is a 3rd pair D with some potential to become a 2nd pair D. Burakovsky is a 3rd line winger. Jaskin is a waiver claim with no trade value and Barber is a f**king AHL player. Add two low picks and that's enough in your opinion?

I mean, the equivalent of this trade is like...
Florida Panthers
Evgeny Kuznetsov

Washington Capitals
MacKenzie Weegar
Frank Vatrano
Colton Sceviour
Dryden Hunt
2019 1st round pick

No sane GM would do anything like that... And the one fan suggesting it's FLA winning here must be one of the most biased hockey fan in the entire CapFriendly.

Edit: Oh, and one thing. I saw you respond to another comment that you gave more picks than FLA got from the Bjugstad trade... One shouldn't even compare Barkov with Bjugstad...Barkov is more than five times as valuable than Bjugstad...

Funny how you bring up the playoffs when that has nothing to do with your one-sided trade.
But that’s pretty much every one of your posts.

Barkov plays over 20 minutes a game most nights against the other teams best players, who in that trade takes that ice time for Florida?

Looking at just stats is why this trade is horrible, this is why the eye test comes in to play. Have any of the Washington players put up those results against teams best player? Do they handle the tough minutes?

Watch first, then speak.

Please nowhere near Barkov’s value, never ever will be traded but think multiple top prospects and 1st rounders to even be in the ballpark.

If you want Barkov it’ll have to start with Orlov + Vrána + Wilson + 1st rounder x2

Absolutely. Barkov is the best player in this deal. I would not suggest it if he wasn't.

When Burakovsky is at peak health, and plays with top six linemates, he scores points slightly more quickly than Barkov, but Barkov plays more defense in a game than Burakovsky plays in a month.

That's why I threw in a future top pair RHD, the Caps' best puck possession wing, a prospect who plays more of a two way game, and picks.

What are some trades where a player nets more assets than that?

Have you see Kuznetsov's faceoff percentage this year, though? smile

Jaskin has four more playoff points than everyone you mentioned, put together, and Burakovsky has four times as many as Jaskin.

Incidentally, who are the other two best two way centers? This should be fun... (starts popcorn)

Barkov for Kuznetsov if anything

How does this improve Washington's depth at center? Or their salary cap stability? Four years of a great two-way center does not make up for seven years of one of four active centers to post thirty points in a single postseason. Would you suggest Barkov for Malkin or Crosby? Couture, sure, but he's old.

But keep in mind. Barkov is also cheaper for the next 4 years that’s big for a team like Washington up against the Cap. Kuznetsov is better offensively but I think most teams would rather take Barkov

A 700k difference for four years is meaningless if the cap keeps going up, and all of the inflation is on top line players. The minimum wage hasn't changed since Backstrom signed for six million a year. Now Oshie gets almost six million and Michael Ferland says he'll want six million a year, and he might get it. People are already talking about 9M a year for Stone, and 12 for Matthews as an RFA. You wait three more years to negotiate with Barkov as a UFA, and he's getting a $15M AAV, max term, in four years. Easily. Kuznetsov, who is signed up until age 34, at which point he might go year to year.... is a hundred million dollars cheaper, career, than Barkov. He's four years older, so maybe Barkov plays longer, but if the Caps are looking to repeat, their leading playoff scorer is a non-starter for on-ice reasons, as well.

Also, while Kuznetsov got thirty points in last year's playoffs (joining nine other centers in NHL history), Barkov has three career playoff points. Jaskin has four. Burakovsky has sixteen.

If Florida aren't looking for playoff heroes and draft picks, they would have hung up on Pittsburgh.

But also, why are we arguing. There's no need to be jealous, as a Flames fan, just because Washington could use a skilled checking center, while Eller's out for a couple of days. Instead maybe let me know how much of the above it would take to land Elias Lindholm?
