Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2019
Published: Feb. 4, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I read that the Flames are linked to Ferland.

Would they really want him back?

Also do you think Ferlands value is higher now? or before he got traded to the Canes?

Bennett is the kind of player we will need in the playoffs - no way we trade him and a 1st to rent Ferland back.

Right now Ferly has 7 more points than Bennett and has been playing in top 6 all season- where is the sense?

Agreed. A late CGY 1st for Ferland sure but nothing else. He's good but he is not a superstar.

Ok, so coming from a Flames fan, do you think his value is higher now then when he was a Flame??

Ferland is a classic case of a standard third line player being placed with first and second line superstars and having his value inflated. it works in Carolina because his physical play and better than average shot compliment the smaller young superstar play makers you guys have. he had some of the same success with Calgary playing on a line with gaudreau and monahan but has certainly looked better in Carolina. if another team decides to sign him at his probable asking price of 4-5 million in all likelihood his play will revert to his real value as a third line player making that contract look atrocious. i would say the best option for him would be to stay in Carolina where something has obviously clicked. if a team can sign him for like 3 million he provides grit and depth scoring power but anything more is an over payment

kunitz when he was in Pittsburgh or chaison in edmonton are other examples to look at as players who are overvalued when playing with superstars

the guy above makes a good point when comparing bennett and ferland. bennett has been 3rd 4th line all season and has almost as many points as ferland who has played top 6 and powerplay.

i would love to see ferland back on the flames but i would expect 3rd line minutes out of him and would not be willing to give up very much in a trade. maybe an off season signing

Unfortunately i dont think Ferland accepts less than 5m. Hes going to get a Wilson contract.

Wilson is at 0.72 pts/game this season. he is making that contract not look as terrible as everyone thought it was.

Ferland is currently 0.62 pts/game so if he keeps pace I think he will land somewhere like 4.5-4.7 million for 5 years. difference is I think Wilsons upside is a lot larger than Ferlands in my opinion

only time will tell and to be honest I hope ferly proves me wrong because I love him as a hockey player
