Boyle trade was best case scenario for the Wild

Description
Staal is worth much more than Boyle IMO, and this trade kind of sets the market for centers. I think this means we have a good chance at getting a 1st for Staal. WPG seems like the best fit to me, and with Koivu's injury there's a good chance we sell.

Yes, yes, and yes. Jets would even throw in Petan. Not the shiny prospect he used to be, but maybe he'd find his place with the Wild as a top 9 player.

Imo you can do better than that for Staal.

I would do it. I have a very strong suspicion the ask for Staal from Winnipeg would be Roslovic straight up 1 for 1 since he's exactly what we need, but I HIGHLY doubt Chevy wants to move him.

Most likely, but I think this is probably the lowest return we'd get which is still pretty good. I'm so happy Nashville made that trade, lol.

Personally I don't think that a third line C a couple weeks before the deadline sets the market, Nashville essentially traded the 55th - 62nd pick, it may as well be a 3rd rounder. Teams are also going to be holding on tightly to their 1st's because if they are pursuing a Duchene, Stone, Panarin, Bobrovsky etc, they will require multiple. I think a team may spend a 1st on Stall if there are injures and in will be AT the deadline and we will find out only after the deadline when all the trades are filing in and they know they're out on the big fish. A team may get desperate and throw a 1st at Staal in desperation, that would be best case scenario!

Your same argument could be made for firsts, then, that a team trading for Staal essentially will trade a 25th-31st overall pick, so it may as well be a 2nd rounder. I agree, though, there are a lot of hot ticket rentals on the market but many of those guys will cost teams 1sts + A prospect + roster player + possibly more. Staal would be a cheaper option for a team looking to add a very good player, but maybe not quite as game-breaking as a Panarin, Duchene, or Stone. That's why I think Winnipeg is such a good fit since they already have a lot of superstar players and Staal would be a great 2C option for them.

Staal is definitely worth a late first, IMO. I think he can give the Jets more than what they got from Stastny last year. Whether they're willing to punt another 1st round pick on a rental centre is another question

Absolutely, that's why I think that it would be a last ditch hail mary to get a C at the deadline for a team. Quite frankly I would love to see him in Calgary for the price of a late 1st roundpick, he would be a perfect 3C that pushes Jankowski to the wing for the rest of the season. A lot of value there but if I had to venture a guess he is dealt very late in the day!

CGY is one team that I have on my list as a good fit for Staal. CBJ, BUF (if they view themselves as contenders), WSH, BOS, CGY, VAN, NYI, and WPG are all teams I think could benefit from adding a center if they are looking to make a cup run. Not all of them are great trading partners for the Wild (particularly SJS) but CGY is definitely a team I'd think would bid on Staal.

Dont you think Petan and a 2nd would land you Staal, I feel like Staal with like half retention = a 1st therefore Jets can add more on deadline day.
