I already said the value was purposely not put in. But with forwards being a premium and Laine being streaky, why not move him for a better asset.?

True, but it would shock me if Fiala, Tolvanen, or Fabbro wasn’t involved, and probably two of those on top of Ellis. Niku looks better to me, so I’d target all three of those guys instead of Ellis.

The Staal trade might be the only one we need before the trade deadline and I would do that trade.

I guess anyone can get traded for the correct return, but why Ellis? He's good, but not that good...also a UFA next year. Also, I don't at all agree that forwards (wingers specifically) have a premium. Wingers are the easiest to replace. I see you're a Leafs fan. The analogy would be why Marner won't get a Matthews contract. Bob McKenzie does a decent job explaining why on TSN. Check it out. Centers and Top Pair Dmen have the premium.

The Gardiner-Myers deal has had some legs going back to last year. If Winnipeg retained so that the salaries matched...maybe the leafs bite.

I think Gardiner is the better overall d-man...but if Rielly on the right side looks like a bad experiment over the next couple weeks (it hasn't so far)...then maybe Babcock convinces Dubas to swap a lefty for a righty. 1-for-1 I wouldn't do it without the retention + a direct request from babcock

For sure and I get that, I guess the argument is, if Laine could be sold at a premium to a team that needs offense, why not move him for a better piece long term. Theres no secret cap is an issue and the argument is Laine will make around 9-11mill. So why not move him out?

Ellis is more so a place holder for an idea of a return, not necessarily the player I would go after.

Ellis is signed to a new contract next year....Laine wont be traded....
Staal is an ok trade...
Gard isnt for one reason....Myers may get re-signed if they trade Trouba in the off season...We need to keep him...
