Unless its for salary cap purposes (Orpik like move) he would not waive. He might in that sole scenario. He is a Leaf next year unless he retires which is not realistic.

i think he is a leaf as well not going anywhere. If you doesn't play so bad I can see him taking 3M a year for another 2 years Mike loves him and Hans.

His cap hit removal would certainly help but does Marleau, himself, really think his play has fallen off enough to give up on his Cup dream that he left San Jose for?

Pretty sure San Jose couldn't afford to take on Marleau's contract anyways. They have a bunch of RFAs to resign and what to do with Karlsson, Thornton, and Pavelski.

Due to his signing his contract after he turned 35 and it being prorated, if he retires the cap hit would all be on Toronto's balance sheet. In reality if he retired it would be the worst thing for Toronto.

The Sharks have their own cap problems to deal with. Also, that's not enough of a package to eat that much cap. This only helps TOR and no one else. Don't forget, the Sharks let him walk.
