You could probably get Burakovsky for a 2nd and a 4th, no need to give up a first here

Agreed, especially given the Oilers pick will be top 10. Also their problems are largely on the back end and I dont think trading Nurse fixes that in anyway especially with that return.

Quite the overpay that first rn is 7th overall so let's break it down

    2019 2nd = boewy ok good value
    Nurse >> kempny + 3rd
    2019 1st 7th overall >>>> burakovsky

Edmonton has lots of problems obviously and the back end is absolutely one of them however i would argue their biggest issue is scoring depth outside of McDavid, Drai & Nuge. Nurse has great value right now (career high in points and on a RFA friendly deal) and could be used as a trade chip to acquire a skilled winger to play with McDavid. Edmonton has a glut of LHD when Klef, Sekera, Nurse, Russell and Gravel are all healthy so it seem logical to try moving those pieces to address other weakness areas and i cant see them getting value on Russell or Sekera

The deal definitely favors the Caps however i disagree that the 1st is greatly higher value than Bura for a few reasons: 1 Edmonton is not good at drafting and developing talent, 2 Edmonton needs to be in win now mode and Bura is developed and would be a critical piece in establishing a winning culture (forget about a cup, EDM needs to create a winning atmosphere) 3 1st round picks are not sure thing NHL talent whereas Burakovsky is a NHL player

Not that it really matters but I don't think the Oilers are allowed to trade Ryan Mantha since he lives on the LTIR.

The Caps are not trading Kempny. Bowey and Bura sure, but not the best d contract they've got.

I'd like Nurse on the Devs.
I think Shero could put together a similar pkg going to Edm (better in fact) without you guys giving up a first.
Seems like it's a need in Edm for the ELC at a minimum no?

What would Shero have going back to EDM?

I think this could be good for Washington.

    "EDM
    Bowey, Madison
    Kempný, Michal
    2019 3rd round pick (WSH)
    Additional Details:
    RFA Andre Burakovsky
    WSH
    Nurse, Darnell
    Mantha, Ryan
    2020 2nd round pick (EDM)
    Additional Details:
    2019 1st round pick"

Off the top of my head, Kempny is outscoring Nurse this year, and has better blocks and plus/minus, but Nurse plays bigger minutes and hits more?

Burakovsky has more goals than all but seven guys from his draft class, so he's worth a late 1st pick, easily.

Bowey for Mantha is.... about even, by potential, but Bowey, like Kempny, is on a better contract.

The Caps draft pretty well, though, lately, so if they are fairly confident they can steal another great pick out of the 20s this summer, or package Edmonton's with theirs to move up, then they could see that as a chance to get someone as good as Burakovsky, but who doesn't even have to start their ELC for another year or two.

The cap space almost evens out, and the Caps get a roster spot to call up whatever prospect fits the bottom six spot where Burakovsky doesn't really fit, so the real question is whether Nurse can play well with Carlson. I think Carlson was effective when paired with Alzner and Orpik, and Nurse seems like a combination of both of their strong points, when they were young. He'll cost more than Kempny, but I think if anything he's even more of a legit top pairing LHD.

Between Nurse, Orpik, and Siegenthaler, the Caps' defense could play pretty rough. If Mantha ever makes the team, he replaces Bowey. If not... flip him.

Severson would be a solid add & who they should have targeted instead of Hall for Larsson. However if you are going Nurse + EDM 1st you need stronger wingers coming back like Wood & Zacha but thats likely a non starter for NJ
