Remaining optimistic

Created by: Bdawggy
Team: 2018-19 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 7, 2019
Published: Feb. 7, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tell me if any of these values are off, I'm not an expert on all players. Trying to maintain a roster to prepare for next year.

Edmonton trade made during next off season. Edmonton gets an offensive talent that could pot 30 with McDavid for cheap, Nuti who is a great #3 guy with tons of more potential at a nice cap hit for 3 more seasons and 1st.

I know many think Florida wont trade for him this year, but I think giving up a prospects and a couple picks could happen if they guaranteed an extension with him before. Bob would waive if he could get an 8 year contract (hes not getting carey price money)

Just an FYI, I don't think TBL can trade their 2019 1st since it's a conditional pick that would be sent to the Rangers if TBL wins the Cup. Which will probably happen if you send them Panarin, so plz no.

Why? Why? Why? Why does Florida who are 12 points out of the playoffs want an UFA goalie?

I think Quick would cost a 1st and a prospect and roster player + lower pick

Because their management wants the inside track at giving Bobrovsky an 8 year contract of death.

Can’t really see Florida wanting a ufa....why would they? They would likely be on the other side of a trade like that. Don’t think Edmonton has any interest

I really doubt Florida management truly wants Bob....a declining goalie at age 30 for eight years, especially when they two mid expensive goalies signed long term.
IMO it's a CapFriendly rumour and CBJ fansespecially make these trades. It's similar to when we see all these non sensical Fowler to Montreal trades. Fowler who has a four team "trade me to" list. Yea, I'm sure Montreal makes the the top four.
90% of all posted UFA trades are widely overpaid by the buying team. It's a short half season rental but so many make the trades as if the UFA has three years of term.

If Florida does sign Bobrovsky is Luongo retiring?
And if he does retire who gets his cap hit? I thought I heard it goes to Vancouver but don't quote me on that, maybe someone out there knows.

Yes, I would say Vancouver or maybe both Vancouver and Florida would have to pay a cap penalty. Both teams participated in the front loading of the contract which lessened the cap hit in previous years. Now it's time to make up the cap difference if he retires. I'm guessing it's a 3.5m cap penalty each and every year for three years.

This isn't a capfriendy rumor. Multiple reporters have stated this. I know Florida isnt going to be a playoff team this year, but swapping UFAs and giving us a couple picks (not a first) and a prospect (not tjpett, borgstrom or denisenko) for a confirmed Bob is totally worth it. Hes only playing bad this year due to the mental thing. He sucked last time there was a contract issue

Package may be off but I do think if Edmonton wants to seriously rebuild they need to send off either Nuge or Drai for cheaper, good roster players

I wonder if theres a condition that says we get their 2019 first if they dont win the cup, and their 2020 first if they do. I've seen tons of TBL fans say they shouldnt give up much since they're so stacked, but I think since they're stacked they should give up stuff for him before they have to start selling off good players.

Also, does anyone know if theres a condition where we get can get a player after the year ends? Like zayn we get Raddysh, Volkov, and a 2019 or 2020 first under the condition they get panarin and we also get JT miller after the season ends.. not saying it should happen I'm just curious if it can

Then Edmonton can continue to not shed salary and improve. The deal for Florida can be changed but you're crazy if you think theres no way Florida trades for him.

Because they would be a playoff team with competent goaltending? Or they can just let him reach FA and see another team scoop him up then just spend more years wondering why they have such a lethal offense that cant get to the playoffs because the goaltending is so bad.

My values may have been off but once again you're wrong if you dont think they wont give up something to get him this year

I know it's all subjective...but any Florida executive who 1. wants to trade for an upcoming UFA. 2, Wants to sign Bob, should be fired immediately

They’re 11 points out of a playoff spot. They have zero chance no matter who they pick up

Once again, making invalid points. I said they would absolutely trade for him if they knew they could get him to sign. Never did I say they would compete for him this year.

If they knew they could get him to sign why not just wait and do it July 1st?

Because maybe they dont know if they can get him? If they call CBJ and get permission to speak with him and say, "hey Bob, if we traded for you would you be willing to sign an extension?" If he says yes then they should trade for him to get it done.

If they're given permission to speak extension depending on a trade, they're not allowed to say "hey Bob were gonna trade for ya if you want to extend here, but let us know if you want to come here anyways so we dont have to give anything up"

But guess what bob says to that? “Uhhh no, you can bid on me along with 30 other teams, thank you.”
