No way. Leafs won't do that for a pending UFA and the Leafs can't afford an extension with Stone unless they also get rid of Nylander's contract. Plus, no way Sens do that deal, extension or not.

The concept of not trading with rivals because theyre rivals is flat out stupid. Get the best value possible for your team or look like Dorian did with the Hoffman trades.

On the other hand, it's an interesting deal, stone is easily the best piece here but I don't think Dubas would want to mortgage the future for 2 months of stone. He's going to cost more than Zaitsev/Kap combined next year, so it's a pure rental.

The idea is to shed Zaitsevs contract and have Stone for one playoff run.

I agree its a lot to give up but thats what It might cost for Stone as a rental plus you are going to have to give up assets for a team to take Zaitsevs contract. I think people are undervaluing freed up cap space as a very valuable asset.

Zaitsev's contract is not worth the cost of another lost 1st rounder and Kapanen. Not sure which planet you are following the Leafs on, but there are other, way more effective ways to get rid of Zaitsev and Sens won't deal with Leafs unless they crazy overpay. Your deal is crazy crazy overpayment.

Couldn't agree more...but I think Melnyk would demand a king's ranson in order to give Dorion the green light to deal with Toronto.

Either way...I'm not a fan of this deal as there'd be no room to re-up stone
