The Caps get a worse winger for their third line and upgrade at defense. The Avs get a younger, better winger and additional forward depth and get a little worse at defense but still have a top-4 guy signed for term. I don't believe this is as lopsided as y'all make it sound.

DSP and Megna are next to useless in a trade. So you're looking at Bura + Niskanen for Barrie + Wilson.
I see a lot of people crapping on this, but I don't think it's far off. I think Capitals add a 2nd and this is actually fine. Barrie is a good Dman that expires next year and Caps are probably just fine with it - it fits their window because they have a lot of talent developing, just not righties. Niskanen, while on a down year, I still think has value. And maybe great value if he turns it around and finds the right partner.
I personally prefer Burakovsky and think he brings more than Wilson. Not a huge Wilson fan; I think he's a super average 3rd liner, whereas Burakovsky has better upside. I think this part of the trade helps the value.
I don't know, I think this is fair. And I think Caps adding a 2nd or 3rd pushes it into "favors Coloardo" territory.
You guys might be right on this, honestly. In comparing some of the metrics, Barrie is an obvious upgrade over Niskanen due to his age, contract, and stats (in my opinion), but I was surprised to see that Burakovsky has such a high relative Corsi and is roughly on par in terms of PPG with Wilson, especially when you consider that Burakovsky has played mostly on the 3rd or 4th line this year and last. So it really comes down to whether COL thinks that DSP and Megna for the rest of 2019 and Niskanen for an additional year of Barrie's contract are worth losing Barrie's 0.25PPG and +1.3 Corsi for 1.5 seasons.
Based on metrics alone, maybe an upgraded prospect over Megna and a conditional pick gets this done from a true value perspective, as has been already suggested.
Barrie is 27, signed through 2020 at AAV of $5.5mm, is a 0.63PPG RHD that averages 21:47/night and has a relative Corsi of +2.9
Niskanen is 32, signed through 2021 at AAV of $5.75mm, is a 0.38PPG RHD that averages 20:48/night and has a relative Corsi of +1.6
Wilson is 29, signed through 2019 at AAV of about $3.9mm, is a 0.45PPG winger with relative Corsi of +1.6
Burakovsky is 23, signed through 2019 at AAV of $3mm, is a 0.44PPG winger with relative Corsi of +3.5
