Zaitsev could fit nicely in the 4 hole on the Wings but they have cap issues as well. Big overpay in the trade and too much salary for the Wings to absorb.

Johnsson and Kapanen will be looking at similar amounts by year end. 7M for Marner might be a one year number but not 3 given Matthews number.

I like the Jensen extension. Good number and term.

Toronto needs cap space and a couple less expensive player. Glendening is a really good defensive player and a excellent faceoff guy, plus he was one a favorite of Babcock. Jensen is a really good skater and has become a solid defenseman who can play a lot of minutes. In the last year of his contract so if he doesn't work out Toronto just says goodbye.

I think Connor Brown and Detroit would a good fit for both. He would come to Detroit and be a top 6 forward and hopefully get back to the numbers he had in 2016-17 or better. Zaitsev is different, right now I think he's a top 4 or a pretty good 5th defenseman. It isn't his just his salary but combined with the contract length and his age 27 that almost moves him from asset to a handicap. (In trade value only)

I just think a higher draft pick or a top 10 prospect would help ease the anxiety caused by Zaitsev's contract.

I think you could get Jensen for $2m - $2.5m. Now if you win the cup that will probably go up. NHL GM's love to overpay players that have just won a Cup.

On a one year deal, $8m is probably as good as they could get... and I think $9m is probably more likely.

It's anyone's guess now. Logic went out the window when Matthews signed.

According to Friedman Detroit's close to resigning both Howard and Jensen. So not sure if Jensen will hit UFA status.
