neither of those players has any reason to not take an 8 year deal.
They aren't going to sign shorter give you whats left of their best years and then leave just as they start to age out.
If you want them you are going to have to sign them for 8 years. Especially Skinner who is only 26 years old. He has no need to sign only till he's 31. His agent would laugh at you and hang up the phone.
Karlsson on the other hand, someone will pay him till he's 36. Good luck to whoever does.

If they sogn with any team other than San Jose (Karlsson) or Buffalo (Skinner) then max is 7 not 8. Buy both will want the max which is 7

Mats Sundin, Daniel Alfredsson, Erik Karlsson, Willie Nylander are all greedy Swedes who will abandon their teams the first chance they get to be selfish

I don't know why Karlsson would go to Vancouver where he has no one to play with, for a team that hasn't been in the playoffs forever, and isn't even going to pay him all that much. At least in California or Florida there's sunshine and surfing.

Karlsson may not stay in San jose, but Skinner definitely will stay in Buffalo just to keep his confidence.

Pretty much everyone would agree that the eriksson contract was a mistake before he even signed it. I would consider Karlsson different because he is an elite player but if he wants a max contract I wouldn't give it to him but if he would take six years at 9.5 I would since we have lots of expiring contracts coming up (Sutter, Gudbranson, Markstrom) Also I would say karlsson has at least 4 more years of being an elite player.

Karlsson would go to Vancouver only to play with the young guys. Not saying he will go to Vancouver, jusy giving a reason why
