These are the kind of trades i like, "freebies".... Dude's a young Dman for Pitts, right. Maybe grows, but it doesn't cost them anything. The contract expires this year. its a chance for Pitts mgmt to see if he can play in next year's line up ex C Djoos.

He would have to play 10 of the next 27 games?
What are the chances?
PIT planning on moving some Dman soon?

Seems unlikely he’ll hit that quota, particularly if RD Schultz returns. I don’t even think he’ll stick on the PGH roster right now and he doesn’t require waivers so it’s a free pick-up.

The only thing he provides that PGH lacks is a Right shot (behind Letang all they have is Ruhwedel and the injured Schultz). Maybe they want to see what a more balanced (handed-wise) blueline looks like? Otherwise I don’t see him playing much, if at all, with PGH given he couldn’t crack the Jackets lineup in 3 years.

I think this is a trade to help CBJ not the penguins. The Penguins have spaces to give.
CBJ maybe looking at taking on contracts with trading Panarin and Loaf.

CBJ is currently 47/50 with this trade.

If they get back a prospect and a player for loaf you are at 48/50.
If you get the same with Bob, you are at 49/50.

If they didn't make this trade they are at 50/50.
Add in anything else and they would have been over.
Penguins could easily lend a hand. It doesn't hurt them. GMJR has been known to be someone you can work with and not a total D.
Even if he drives CBJ crazy at times.

Chalk it up to a favor.

This is not a trade for te NHL. Teams also have to field a full AHL team and make moves for them as well.

Heck of a steal for Pit. He is basically free.
