At today's cap hit, FLA doesn't have enough free space to land both Bob and the Breadman, even after moving out Hubs and Brassard. A few more bodies would have to go for them to sign extensions (today's cap hit is $13.475mm, future hit will be in the $18mm range). Even with the cap next year going to $83mm (if it makes it that high, no guarantee), you still have to factor in extensions for Vatrano, Hawryluk for sure, and probably Malgin. You'll also need another 2 Dman if you don't reup Weegar or McCoshen.
Yes, McGinn, Sheahan, and MacKenzie are gone, Brouwer and Haley too, but those salaries will probably just cover the extensions. FLA will still need about $6mm more dollars out (even after losing Brassard and Hubs) to be able to sign Bread and Bob and the FAs. That's why they are considering trading for them instead of just signing them as FAs. CLB would have to take on more dollars to do an in-season deal.
