This is what it could look like without an extension. With one, youd have to upgrade Hartman to a better piece

pass, Hartman is crap, and Fabbro needs to have his ELC signed for OTT to even consider and a it would have to be a conditional first in 2020 is stone re-signs.

bad trade for OTT.

You guys act like you even have a high ground here. It's going to end up being just like Karlsson. You ask for too much then every team says no to a certain player then you have to rethink it then you settle for less. Quite a bit less.

Well Ottawa would for sure get Dante fabbro and a 1st, the difference is what the next piece could look like based on an extension or not

If you switch in Kevin Fiala for Ryan Hartman then I think it's a pretty fair deal, all things considered.

a 1st, 2nd, nhl ready top 4 d spec (OTT needs desperately) that will def sign an elc (925x3), and Hartman gets a fresh start with increased ice time, maybe he becomes something of value

You guys were saying 2 firsts Top prospects another mid tier prospects, a 2nd, and another low tier prospect, and a good 2nd Line Forward/2nd Line Defenseman so that's less than what you just said.

If I were Ottawa, this is probably the best package for Stone. He fits best in Nashville's system, they have the pieces Ottawa wants (even without Fabbro, they have Allard downstairs) and they have an advantage for an extension. It does little damage to Nashville's chemistry and then get a top 6 forward to boot. Plus, their window remains open for another 3-4 years after with a couple of guys on fantastic contracts.

Okay. People said Karlsson was a top 3 defenseman in the league this offseason not really much of a difference.

You had Karlsson going for draisaitl with money retained, nurse, and a first.

I wouldn’t tell anyone they don’t understand the league

Exactly, and look what he got.....Stone isn't gonna bring that much in on a rental deal. These guys are in way over their heads at the moment.

Anyone who expects 2 firsts, a blue chip prospect, and multiple other significant pieces for a rental is delusional.

It would be delusional even if it was Gretzky.

I do think Stone and Duchene are worth a 1st. I do also think they are worth a prospect (just not the best prospect in the system). I also think a contract (with term and money) needs to come back in order to balance the cap issues both teams will have acquiring the likes of these guys.

For example:

Stone-> Nashville

2019 1st, a 5th in 2020, Allard, Smith/Hartman -> Ottawa

There can be conditional picks going the other way in order to balance out the prospect of either Stone or Duchene re-signing. Maybe a conditional 1st/2nd if he re-signs. Maybe another pick somewhere if Nashville reaches the WCF?

Point is, I know Ottawa will get fleeced because teams know the situation they are in. A cheap owner, an inexperienced GM and impatient players.

You think GM's are going to feel sorry for Dorion because he has elite talent they know he can't keep? No. They will take full advantage of the situation Dorion is in.
