Dallas-NYR Big Trade

Created by: kcb12345
Team: 2018-19 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 12, 2019
Published: Feb. 12, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's crazy and probably wouldn't work out, but it's just for fun.

Stars get 2 top 6 forwards, including an excellent Martin Hanzal replacement, and a younger forward that might need a change in scenery in Buchnevich. Also take on the contract of Namestnikov, who could turn things around here and become a good depth forward because it's my understanding he has not been good in New York.

Rangers get the Stars top prospect, top young roster player, and another young roster player (Jason Dickinson) that is excellent defensively and might be the reason Radek Faksa ends up being traded. He has underrated offensive abilities as well and all of his production has come at even strength and on the PK cause he hasn't been given any PP time for some reason even though he can handle it. Rangers also get a 2019 1st, as well as a bundle of other picks (a 2nd rounder and 2 3rds) and another young forward that needs a change in scenery in Nichushkin. They also get soon to be RFA Mattias Janmark who is a very fast skater and has some talent but is having a down year offensively. Rangers then get the rights to Riley Tufte, who I've heard as offensive potential but still has some work to do and is more of a project guy. 6'6 and only 20 though, he could turn out like Hayes if it pays off.

Stars also improve their D-depth with the acquisition of Adam McQuaid. Penguins get Honka as an extra dman with Maatta out now.

I actually really like this deal and I think NYR fans would like it too. It’s basically a breakdown of

Hintz + 2nd for Zuccarello
Robertson + Nichushkin + 1st for Hayes
Janmark for Namestnikov
Riley Tufte + 3rd rounder x2 for Buchnevich

Maybe take Honka and throw him into the rangers trade for Buchnevich? Overall it looks really good

No chance. Bad value for Hayes and Zuccarello. They don’t want middle six pieces in return for top six players. They can get much better value trading them separately to other teams who have better prospects/young roster players. Quality over quantity every time...

They’re getting a great return what’re you talking about

Hintz + 2nd for Zuccarello
Robertson + Nichushkin + 1st for Hayes
Janmark for Namestnikov
Riley Tufte + Dickinson 3rd rounder x2 for Buchnevich

Like I said maybe add Honka to the deal but that’s not really that bad at all

Hintz and Robertson easily have top 6 potential, plus whoever you draft with that 1st rounder. These aren't middle 6 players, they're top end prospects. Hintz was a dealbreaker in the Karlsson trade. Dickinson has untapped potential too but he doesn't ever get a chance here. Think of Mark Stone as a good comparable for Jason Robertson.

The point is that 1. There are bettter prospects who they can likely acquire for Hayes and Zuccarello (Vesalainen, Fabbro, Dubé, for starters) and 2. The whole other point of trading these guys is to clear cap and open spots for guys we have like Andersson Chytil and Kravtsov to get more ice time or have a spot on the team. They don’t want to take back players, who maybe good in their own right, who can/will be outproduced by our younger players immediately.

Hintz has shown nothing in the NHL to say he’s a Top 6 forward in waiting. He’s just now starting to produce well in the AHL at 22...

Robertson will be so much better than Dube. I think he’s on a goal per game pace in the OHL and over 2 ppg. He’s 100% playing in our top 6 next year. I’d honestly take him over Vesalinen and Dube (idk about Fabbro. And Hintz is just finding his game and he’s super noticeable every night. I think it’s a great package for half of them being pending ufa’s

He has shown signs if you have actually watched him play. He has only ever had one other AHL season lol. He has all the tools to be a good top 6 forward. Plays hard every shift, strong in puck battles, big, physical, very fast, good hands, good shot, strong defensively, It's tough to produce on a Stars team (in a 4th line role too) that has some of the worst offensive depth it has ever had. Not every top 6 player starts the same. Could easily have a huge breakout season next year. Rangers management would have interest in him being a part of the deal for sure. There's a reason the Stars wouldn't move him for Karlsson. I think your expectations of what you'll get for those guys are too high. Fans rarely turn out happy when they see the return they get for players.

I usually just scroll through when I see these huge trades involving multiple players. Usually end up being unrealistic. But this one is actually very good, especially from the Rangers perspective. Very well balanced.

Boy this aged well huh? Robertson & Hintz both ended up being far and away the best of any players mentioned.
