Description
Travis Yost of TSN just laid out how the Sens could cash in by taking on bad contracts from other teams, and mentioned Eriksson as an example of a back-diving contract they might find intriguing. What if the Canucks also saw an opportunity to buy for a shot at the playoffs this year, as well as locking up a long-term asset?

This obviously only makes any earthly sense if they can negotiate an extension with Stone before the trade. If he's convinced that he wants to go to July 1st to test the market then there's no way a still-rebuilding team like VAN should even think about it. But with Stone signed long-term the Canucks would have another elite winger signed through his prime, and forming the top two lines around duos of Pettersson-Stone and Horvat-Boeser would be fantastic.

Other considerations in this are;
1) Teammate health: Is Edler coming back this year? Baertschi? How bad is Markstrom?
2) Signing Hughes: Based on Michigan's crap year Hughes could sign and join the Canucks roster as early as March 3rd.

The Trade Value:

For VAN; Stone is awesome and only 26. We know what VAN gets here.

For OTT; they get a 1st round pick that will likely be higher than any other they're offered by a contending team. Based on points % the Canucks would have the 11th overall pick if the draft was today. Obviously they'd want to make that lower if they try to make the push for the playoffs, but realistically it would only drop to the middle of the round. Lind is a very good RW prospect, while Brisebois and the 3rd offer some value as well. Eriksson's deal is back-diving so it can help the Sens meet the cap floor while paying a lower actual salary.

This would be amazing move for Vancouver if Stone signs. Horvat-Stone and Pettersson-Boeser as duos on 1st and 2nd line.. wow..

Getting rid of Loui's contract will cost the 1st round pick (at minimum). No way Lind+Brisebois+3rd get you Stone.

I do like the basis of this though. Ottawa is definitely a team that could take his contract, I just see no way the Canucks get this done without giving up one of their top kids.

What about something along the lines of- Loui+1st (To get rid of Loui), +Dipietro+Juolevi+2nd?

If i were Vancouver id make that trade call asap if Ottawa were looking into moving Stone for that price. Although the others that commented before me are right, I believe it would cost more. A First round pick , A level prospect, plus a roster player would be about right for Stone, but if they're taking on Eriksson's contract then they would request more. They may request O.Juolevi instead of K.Lind in the exchange

This is actually a pretty good deal. Stone is more expensive than eriksson but might have to retain for this to work but ottawa gets a good prospect and a cap dump that can still play and another prospect and a 1st then 3rd. Pretty fair for someone hitting UFA

The cost for Stone alone is reported to be a 1st+Roster player+prospect. Taking on Eriksson is going to cost a lot more.

Do you think that swapping K.Lind for O.Juolevi would be enough of an upgrade to make the trade appealing for Ottawa?
Ottawa gets: 1st round pick, 3rd round pick, O.Juolevi, and L.Eriksson?

I think you need to either retain a ton on Eriksson (50%), or give up something else, which is why I was thinking Dipietro. Eriksson at $3 mil is an OK player. At $6? Yikes.

Benning has made it clear, that our 1st round pick is untouchable, especially during a year we host the draft
