Interesting, normally I’d argue there’s no point in trading already young players for more unproven futures, but the cap issue makes this make more sense.

Thanks for the support. I expect to reamed by my fellow Leaf fans and heck maybe by Flyer fans. It's my thought, if you need cap it's better to trade one piece then you only have one position to fill then to try trade 3 players with a cap of 7m and not get any money back, now you need to fill three positions.

I actually like your trade. I think it's one of the better proposed ones we see on here. It helps both teams. Good job!

My main issues is your value on Johnnson and Kappi. There have been many players that are in their position that dont get such homerun contracts. See Brown, Brown was coming off his ELC and had a 20 goal campaign playing a mix of top 6 minutes (sound familiar) and signed for 2.1$. There is no way Kappi and Johnnson get his much. I would rather give one a one year contract for low AAV and risk paying out higher when Marleau expires then to just give up now and over pay. I just dont understand.

Thanks rja40. I bet all Blues fans are relieved they didn't see a Parayko/Nylander trade. Leafs are in St Louis next week. Should be fun. Always good to see other teams that you don't see often.

I like the concept, but I feel like you have to get someone a little more proven or else it’s weakening the team in their prime contention years. Maybe someone like Josh Anderson from Columbus who’s nowhere near as dynamic as Nylander, but is significantly cheaper and adds a different element.

While I definitely like the idea, I think the Leafs would need back a third piece, like Scott Laughton, who would be an upgrade for the Leafs over Frederick Gauthier.

Beleive it or not, the Leafs are in my top 5 favorite teams so I’m really excited for that game as well. Both teams are looking good so I bet we’ll get an exciting game and hopefully we’ll continue to have your number.

Your comments are fair. I didn't want to underpay the RFAs just to try to get under the cap. Leafs in their last two RFA signings have seemed to pay premium prices for their RFAs. Just my thought, that a one year contract don't work. Leafs might really be looking at offer sheets. And why should Johnson/Kapanen, and other give up security and money just because the Leaf got themselves with cap problems by overpaying other players. Hey I hope you're run that all players take less than I would proposed. Still the Leafs would be over the cap and someone will have to be traded.

Trade Zaitsev and reduce the Kapanen and Johnsson contracts instead. All this does is hurt the window for the Leafs to win

Lets no mistake Nylander for doing this to all players.

Well, thats the beauty of RFA's, we have control. They don't. I dont even think they have arbitration rights.

Funny about Laughton. When he plays against the Leafs he seems to play very well. He is a Toronto boy. If he played 82 games like he plays against the Leafs, he'd be a 4m player.

I agree with about Josh Anderson. Probably the very reason at 1.8m that he's "untouchable" in CBJ view.
The Leafs cap problem arose from signing Tavares as UFA...and not giving up anything for him. Marner turning into star along with his now high salary_. And the better expected play of Johnsson and Kapanen. So in a cap world, someone has to be traded.

I think his point is to show how much room there is once you trade Nylander.

For that to work, you'd have to reduce their total from $6.7M to $4.3M

I don't know if I have seen a Zaitsev trade that makes sense. So many think they can dump Zaitsev without the other team sending money back to the Leafs. Other teams don't have that motivation. And while I would love to see Johnsson and Kapanen take less money (and they still might), the Leafs have shown they are quite willing to overpay their RFAs.

I like your idea. What about mine -- Nylander for Scott Mayfield and the Islanders' first-round draft pick?

I like Laughton's game, at least from what I've seen, and that is more than just when he plays versus TO :P He is a grinder and plays a tough, hard-nosed game, something the Leafs could certainly use in their lineup, not to mention on the 4th line. He has decent enough hands to score some as well, and like I said, would be an upgrade over what Toronto currently has as their 4C. He is an RFA, but I would expect a Connor Brown type bridge deal for him on his next contract. I think a Frost, Myers and Laughton for Nylander deal would be fair for both teams.

Leafs would have to see what the pick was. If it's in the late teens or twenties, I don't think it's good enough for the Leafs. Now if the Isles miss the playoffs and it about 10th pick....then it's a maybe.
Why I liked Frost. Flyers have good centre depth, and Leafs don't Frost is doing very well in junior, he might be a year away. Frost could be replace Kadri in a few years.
Mayfield has real unusual contract. Long term at a modest price., even as good third pairing, he would be a fit for any team., if he maintains his play. Jarnkrok of Nashville signed a 12m for 6 years, now seems like a real bargain for Nashville.

I always hate playing teams that run around the ice like antelopes, and Toronto has a herd of them. The Blues have been skating well of late, but that idiot Doug Armstrong continues to force Steen and his triceratops-like speed onto the ice to save face for the stupid extension he gave him. Watching him skate now is worse than watching leaves grow.

When the Leafs are going well, their speed is very evident. Nylander is actually looking really good, and Kapanen who is always plays fast, when he has puck confidence is really good too. Plus Marner.
That's three really fast right wingers. Blues left wingers better have jets on their skates, if the Leafs have their A game on.

One of our left wingers is Alexander Steen. The only jet he has will be in the word "jettison" as when we get rid of him. Ugg.
