I always hate playing teams that run around the ice like antelopes, and Toronto has a herd of them. The Blues have been skating well of late, but that idiot Doug Armstrong continues to force Steen and his triceratops-like speed onto the ice to save face for the stupid extension he gave him. Watching him skate now is worse than watching leaves grow.

Triceratops, I like it. You can really tell Steen’s a boat-anchor by the way he struggles so hard to gain ground lol. The Blues new system has everybody (even Maroon) looking like effortless skaters through the neautral zone and then there’s Steen who makes it look like he’s dragging a car. I still think he’s useful on the pk and honestly I’d put him in front of the net on the power play as well, but man he drives me nuts at even-strength.

I think Dubas designed Nylander's contract like he did just to be able to do a trade like this to get out of a cap crunch. We are in a cap world and as much as we would like to keep all the great players we just can't. A team meeds more than 5 or 6 star players and the rest just low level support because that is all that we can afford. I would rather have 3 or 4 star players and have better quality support for them. Trading Nylander for future prospects or picks allows the team to keep competitive longer into the future by adding to the future pool of quality players rather than reducing them by adding them or picks as incentive for teams to take players off our hands.

My take up to the Muzzin trade was that I thought they'd make minor adds this year, focus on signing the rfas and then make a real push in a couple years. But I think the Muzzin trade signals that the leafs FO think they got a legitimate shot now, and I think there could be more moves coming before the trade deadline, which is great.. but it certainly complicates the plot in terms of how they make the cap work next year.. someone's gonna go. And unless the magic 6M number that you and others identified disapears from their cap next year, then a Nylander trade very well could make the most sense.. as much as Id hate to see that happen..

I like your thought and agree with it. In hockey even your poorly paid NHLer who are on the third or fourth line or are the bottom end Dman play big minutes, important minutes collectively. So those guys better be NHL good or else you're giving up too many goals when they are on the ice.

For that to work, you'd have to reduce their total from $6.7M to $4.3M

Right. I can't seem to find a way to get the leafs to be cap compliant unless i trade out Z, Brown and either squeeze Kappy/Johnson or trade Hyman too. What i take away from pals post is... are the leafs a better team in losing up to 3 rosters players or 1, in possibly Nylander? Its a good question.

Strange though.. if Marleau does choose to retire and his contract is traded then everything seems to magucally line up with without too much concern. Very strange how that works..

Gee, I feel it would be drinks for all Leafs fans if Nylander is still on the team. Maybe that means Marleau has retired. I'm on Georgian Bay but I come to Toronto often, usually Etobicoke area.
Would love to meet you and our CapFriendly pals.

If you trade Zaitsev and limit Marner to $9.5M, you can usually make things work . . . the main determining factor is actually Marner's hit. I've done a few constructions, some posted and some not, that indicate (to me at least) that whether you give Marner $9M, $9.5M, or more than that dictates who can stay and who has to go. Pretty soon you find yourself looking at guys like Nick Jensen, Scott Mayfield, Christian Folin, Oscar Fantenberg, and asking yourself whether Stephen Johns will ever play again.

Haha. I thought I was ‘north’ as I’m in Aurora. I’d legit be down for catching a leaf game with some of you gents. Maybe 400/7 type area. Or Barrie even if everyone is north

I think Kaberle was a rhd. Maybe we could convince him to come out of retirement? And sign for league minimum..

No Kaberle was LHD. Maybe a more reasonable scenario would to have RHD Bob Baun or Jim McKenney come out of retirement.

You're a more tecky than me. Maybe you can contact some. Leaf fans on this site. A post winter get together would ease any driving/delay concerns. I'm game for any event either simple or complex.

Weird that Matthews got the contract he did then....

That kind of thinking is a thing of the past

You make the most FOOLISH and OUTRAGEOUS comments on this website. Stop wasting peoples time with your bullsh*t. Yeah we are obviously saying that Kappi and Johnnson are the same as Mathews...!?!?! Use your head.

I think you’re ignoring the context of this discussion. You said (or whoever I was responding to) that rfas don’t have leverage. Well, they do. Nylander got paid. Matthews got possibly the most player friendly deal out of an elc in nhl history. RFAs have leverage. Tom Wilson just got like 27 million dollars right? Saying that RFAs don’t have leverage is ignoring all evidence from the last 4-5 years

Okay, so you just brought up the outliers, should we actually have an intelligent conversation and bring up the vast majority of RFA signings?

There you go bud, do me a favor and do some research, okay? Okay!

Sometimes I wonder if you are even a sports fan. I know Bruins fans are some of the worst around, there is no mistaking that. Its bad that your profile is Carlo I mean.. ooof. But you go around saying the most ridiculous stuff out of anyone. At first I thought you enjoyed stirring the pot, sure no problem, theres a$$holes all over the internet. Now, I just think you are genuinely stupid. So I apologize for even engaging, its not fair to you.

Good luck on your future endeavors.

Have you noticed that this guy rarely posts teams (4 last year, 4 this year) but seems to have an opinion about every single transaction? I don't think I've ever posted a comment about at least half the teams in the NHL.

He is a weak troll man. I have no patience for him. If you want to come at with me with a legit argument, facts and have a productive conversation. Lets do it! But this arguing to argue needs to stop.

Some people just like to pontificate. Me, I love being wrong (and I don't have to try hard) because being shown the light means being educated. One of my first posts was to posit Erik Karlsson signing up with Florida, where Mrs. Karlsson could renew her acquaintance with Mrs, Hoffman,
