Created by: msekkes
Team: 2018-19 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2019
Published: Feb. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Probably off on my values (I usually am even though I always give other people crap). I think Bennett would really benefit from a change of scenery. Kid is only 22 and was a 4th overall pick. He will probably never live up to that draft status but if he can put everything together he could turn into a solid 2nd liner.
- I don't want to trade Ghost but the bottom line is we need a sniper now and for the future. Tippett has a monster of a shot and a shoot first mentality this team has been desperately lacking and could probably contribute within a year or two. I think all the Ghost chatter going around is a load of crap and he will be a Flyer for a long time but who knows. If we can get a top prospect and a first for him I'm on board with moving him considering our depth at defense.

Now roast away and tell me how none of this will never happen or that I'm way off on my values! (probably half the fun of this board)

Flyers fans who think that the team should trade Ghost because he's having a rough season are like people who think that global warming is a hoax just because it's currently winter: NOT SMART.

Just because something is happening right now does not mean that all other context just disappears.

I agree it isn't a smart idea to move him, especially while his value is low, but if we can get a 1st and a highly ranked prospect that fills an area of need it has to be considered.

Tippett isn't as good as many think. Don't let the draft stock fool you. More likely to just be a middle six winger.

The following are defenseman through roughly the first 270-350 games of their career (I know its not exact, I just basically cut them off after 5 season, but some had injuries/lockouts in there so its not identical). Guess who is who?

Player A: 0.64 pts/gm
Player B: 0.29 pts/gm
Player C: 0.41 pts/gm
Player D: 0.48 pts/gm
Player E: 0.62 pts/gm
Player F: 0.71 pts/gm

He is 25 years old, give him time under Rick Wilson, who has turned provys season around. Tbh, who hasnt sucked defensively? If its not for Carter we would not be where we are in the standings right now

Alright, I'll tell you:

Player A: 0.64 pts/gm - Ghost
Player B: 0.29 pts/gm - Carlsson
Player C: 0.41 pts/gm - Parayko
Player D: 0.48 pts/gm - Neidermayer
Player E: 0.62 pts/gm - Larry Robinson
Player F: 0.71 pts/gm - Chris Chelios

But yeah, let's totally trade a guy compares favourably to HOFers for a pick and mediocre prospect.

Fans like this are the reason the Flyers traded Bob and signed Bryz. "OH NO HE'S NOT PERFECT! Let's trade him for nothing and sign an overpriced, older worse version"

Provy has shown in the past that he is more than capable of being a good D man, Ghost has not. He is a PP specialist who should be sheltered at 5 vs 5. Provy could step in and take Ghosts spot on the top PP and we would likely be the same if not better. And the fact that he is 25 means nothing. He has had 4 years in the NHL to try and figure it out and hasn't.

LMFAO, ya because that is what I said...not perfect is a massive understatement. You must not actually watch the games.

In all fairness to those fans, bob has never won a playoff series. However, he's also lost to the eventual cup champion 3 times, or is it 4?

Exactly!! We complained because all Homer and Clarke did was trade for crappy overpriced older players and we wanted younger players and wanted to watch the kids play! now we want to ship Ghost out because he is not playing well, he has been injured, only 25, and gone through 2 coaching changes this year, and we want him gone.. As the guy said in the thread before, he compares to HOFs, when was the last time we had a puck moving offensive d-man?

You are correct ghost has been horrendus on D recently, that Wild game was a rough one for him, but we need to be patient with him, see if he can turn it around next year, we need to be patient with him

This comment makes my head hurt. It's like you've never watched a Flyers game.

Ghost's 5-on-5 career possession numbers: +2.5% Relative Corsi

Provorov's Power-Play career possession numbers: -6.8% Relative Corsi

Literally everything you just said was wrong. Ghost is a way better 5-on-5 player than he gets credit for, and as much as I love Provorov, he's abysmal on the powerplay.

The 2nd PP unit barely sees the ice. And when they do it is because the 1st turned it over and went for a change. So you can throw Provy's PP stats out the window. As for Ghost, I don't care what those stats say, he is horrible at playing defense. Guy does nothing but run around in his own zone like a chicken with his head cut off. He is nothing but Mike Green 2.0 and with the other offensively skilled D man we have, we don't need a liability out there.

Nope, I watch the games and can see with my own eyes what is happening. Ghost is atrocious defensively, and if you are unable to see that well, it is probably because you don't actually watch the games.

In all seriousness, I am a benevolent hockey fan. I am not simply here to point out how wrong you are (very very wrong).

I will also try to educate you, to teach you about the sport you so clearly love but so clearly know very very little about. So, in light of that, here is an article that debunks all the of the stupid "LETS TRADE GHOST" comments: https://theathletic.com/815979/2019/02/14/debunking-the-myths-surrounding-flyers-defenseman-shayne-gostisbehere-at-the-trade-deadline/ (need a sub to The Athletic, but if you don't already have one than I strongly recommend it).

Maybe you can read this and come out a better and smarter Flyers fan!

I truly am a kind soul.

Again, I don't need a beat writer to try and tell me something different than what my eyes can clearly see. But thanks for being a condescending d!ck. Keep looking at your stats in your mom's basement. I wonder if you have ever actually laced up a pair of skates.

I love the persistence in your belief! You're like those people who claim the Earth is flat in the face of literally all of the evidence to the contrary! Well, at least I tried to help you out. I can't help it if you are too stubborn to see reason. I hope one day you learn to understand this beautiful game of ours, because once you do, it really is an amazing sport!

P.S. I've been playing hockey for over 20 years, which, judging by the amount of time you have to post on CapFriendly.com (8,661 posts! That's insane!), is probably longer than you've been alive.

GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR!

Congrats on your awesome house-league career! And actually It's the other way around, I have been playing longer than you have been alive and at competitive levels.
