I like Fehr, but to only save 100,000 for a rental player that probably is just about the same as Jaskin isn't worth it. Jaskin is probably the best 4th line player the caps have right now (although he keeps getting scratched for no good reason). Jaskin is also set to be an RFA, so if we really want to get rid of him, just move him at the draft. I'd prefer to see Boyd (who doesnt belong in the NHL right now due to his defense) or DSP out (he really inst that good).

Decent pickup at a great price. Glendening would bring a smidge more offense and checking, but might be tough to re-sign, and is tougher to fit under the cap. Fehr is bigger, with more experience, and leaves the Caps free to trade a 2nd or 3rd for a minute eating defenseman. Maybe even a decent #4, if they're lucky, whom they can pair with Orlov, letting them reunite Orpik and Niskanen as a great OFD pair, for one last shot at the title.

I really like Boyd and Smith-Pelly. When they're on, they're on par with most teams' first liners, in terms of assists and goals, respectively. DSP has been filling in on the Caps' 2nd PK unit since Beagle left. He's not Beagle, but he's not awful. Fehr isn't Beagle either, but could help share the load on PK.

Jaskin is a good energy player, but Fehr has become a faceoff specialist/PK specialist. The Caps can call up O'Brien, Siegenthaler, or Lewington if they need hits, once the playoffs start, but Wilson and Orpik each put up more than 80 hits last postseason, each finishing among the top twenty all time. Jaskin was a good pickup when Wilson was out for a while, but right now he doesn't address as many apparent team needs as Fehr. Fehr also has more goals, 5 to 2.

Could the Caps still look to add checking by trading Burakovsky for Coyle, Schenn or Zadorov? Sure. Could they trade Jaskin and a higher pick for Glendening instead of Fehr? Yes. But that leaves them with one less high pick to trade for a big splash.

I like Fehr too. I like that he's cheap and a rental, a lot of the guys know him, and he can help win some faceoffs and PK.

Honestly looking at this, it seems like the most "this probably could and may" happen deals I've seen proposed on here.

Yeah, problem is that Reirden just doesn't like Jaskin that much, from what it appears. Fehr would at least give us a better face off guy on the fourth line, who can also score. I would consider Fehr to be a mix between Dowd and Boyd's skill-sets.
