WINnipeg

Created by: Skytown
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2019
Published: Feb. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
WPG has a decent amount of depth on the wings with guys like Wheeler, Laine, Conner, Roslovic, Tanev etc and Vesalainen coming soon. This makes Ehlers expendable. Adding Duchene up the middle would, and I use the term loosely, put them over the top. Little as a 3C would do wonders for them come playoffs.
Perrault is added for cap reasons. *Duchene is signed as part of the trade* While we all know OTT doesn’t want to pay players, Perrault is a very good, serviceable mid 6 player, who could fit well in OTT. He does have a M-NTC thought so I could see OTT being 1 of the 5 teams on his no trade list for obvious reasons.

Let me know if I’m way off.

Ehlers is one of the last guys you want to trade

Vesa definitely does not make Ehlers expendable. Apart from discounting that he is the single most efficient Jet at zone exits, entries, and provides the single highest output of scoring chances of anyone on the jets, Ehlers is a perennial 0.75+pt/game player locked up for the next 6 years at a price which makes him the 3rd best and 2nd safest contract on the Jets.

Supposing the idea of Duchene in Winnipeg is humored then keep in mind there is zero chance of resigning him, and as such he is getting a rental price. 1st, B prospect, maybe a 2nd B prospect.

The thought of trading Ehlers alone makes this way off.

Ehlers is the Jets most exciting player by a mile, when he has the puck you're on the edge of your seat.
Vesalainen on the other hand is a big bore, if he's traded it wouldn't bother me one bit. I realize it was a small sample size when he was with the Jets but while he was with the team he did nothing that stood out.
He seemed like a responsible player but wasn't very engaged in the play, seems a bit slow too.
Ehlers should be considered almost untouchable in my opinion.

I'd say that's a little drastic. At the end of the day the guy is a point per game in the AHL and puts up more than half a point per game despite getting being underutilized ice time in the KHL as a 19 year old. I'm stoked for Vesa to hit his stride on a team that could sustain a top 9 of

Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine
Connor-Roslovic-Wheeler
Vesa-Little-Appleton

In my pipe dream scenario, Poile loses his sh*t and trades Tolvanen and their 1st to go get Panarin, Stone, or Duchene. From there we have a chance to put a stranglehold on the central for years and years.

Nice looking top 9, to have that top 9 don't trade top young talent for rentals right? I like that plan!
