But the Leafs are cap compliant this year. Leafs aren't going to dismantle their team this season. Now making a cap compliant for next season, that take some work.

Canes pass. Would want more to move Pesce now. Think they’d wait until offseason to move on Kapanen or Johnsson. The best deal for the canes will be when the Leafs are pressured to make a move, and that time isn’t now.

Hard disagree. Carolina makes the Kapanen for Pesce deal instantly. Toronto isn't offering that, which is the only reason it hasn't happened.

I think Kapanen has become one of our most important players this year...I wouldn't think of moving him at the TDL. Everytime he's on the ice he's dictating the pace of play and creating offence.

I like Pesce but I'm not sure the majority of Toronto fans appreciate him for what he is...a shutdown D-man...perhaps even one of the best in the league. This guy is not going to see his name on the stat sheet after the game very often. It may sound stupid...but I worry how that will be perceived by Toronto fans after a while....if Kapanen continues his rise as a scoring winger and Pesce simply does the quiet things that keep pucks out of the net and allows his D-partner to play a more offensive style...do fans start to turn on him?

Honestly...Hainsey does a lot of the simple, quiet things on the ice that allow Rielly to have the type of season he's having....and fans are jumping on him this season as being useless. I think a straight up 1-1 Kapanen-Pesce deal is one that helps both teams (and stings equally for the player being lost)...but I definitely wonder if the majority of fans understand what they're actually getting in Pesce when meatheads in the Toronto media come on the air in between periods and try pitching him as someone that will chip in offensively

I am pretty sure that its been reported that theyve already discussed this and the only reason it hasnt happened is because the Leafs didnt wanna give up a roster player like Kap or Johnson. I do think this is highly unlikely, but this is a fantasy site, but both teams are lacking a player like this on both sides to make them better. Brown for TVR is more of a prudent scenario, but, i dont think it moves the needle.

This makes their team better this year and compliant for next year.

Agreed, it is likely Pesce plus right now, which is why its likely not on the table.

Two sides to everything gents...Canes won’t do it. There were reports that a Nylander for Pesce swap was discussed prior to Nylander 12/1 extension...I just don’t believe the Canes are motivated to move Pesce.

Keep in mind that the ‘Canes are the highest scoring team since Jan 1st. Their ‘need’ for a top 6 winger has now turned into a ‘want’
