Oilers from TDD 2019

Created by: pinksocks
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2019
Published: Feb. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Chiarelli set this franchise back 3 years with his genius. It is quite remarkable how much would need to change to get this team back into a playoff / contender status.

I started this in 19/20 so I needed to sign Chiasson, Petrovic & Talbot to trade them for picks. Offseason starts with Burakovsky & Pesce acquisitions.

Caps deal is meh. I'd only really want a RHD if it's going to be someone we can slot into the top 4 above Niskanen.

Niskanen is better than Benning, but he gives some cover for injury and with a partner that isn't a pile of garbage like he has in Edmonton he may be fine in the top 4.

Pleeeeeease no Burakovsky. We need to stop acquiring other teams garbage that’s why we are in this mess.

Talbot is more likely being traded with a 3rd for Brian Elliott. He's not being dealt for a 3rd round pick.

That's not realistic. If that's the case he will just come off the books in the summer and wouldn't be traded. It may well be Elliot or Stolarz straight across, other than that he wouldn't be moved, it's a waste of assets.

Burakovsky is a tremendous talent with serious speed and in need of a change of scenery. Playing alongside either of #29/#97 is a major upgrade to any of our current top 6 wingers. Giving up Benning, who next year is redundant with Persson/Bouchard/Bear/ or whoever takes the 3RD spot in the summer, plus a 3rd round pick is a fair price to pay for a player who has the tools to score 20 per season, especially with one of our big name C's. We currently have 1 winger who will eclipse 20G, and that is a PTO in Chiasson.

Well the Flyers don't need Talbot. So the deal is really to help her cap situation this season. You can have Elliott and call it a wash really. I hope it's not Stolarz.

    You have amazing hindsight.

A factor that makes the deal more palatable is that Stolarz is likely to be a UFA himself if he doesn't make 10 more appearances this year.

And because the Oilers are idiots, they won't get him in for those 10 games and it will be Talbot for nothing.

The Oilers can re-sign him though. Their goalie situation is probably more preferable for Stolarz than what the Flyers have with Hart and some other young guys in the AHL.

Stolarz hasn't proven much but he looks like he could be a real solid backup goalie.
