I'd argue worst case scenario would be both Stone and Duchene telling the Sens they want to sign extensions and then walking at the end of the season.

perhaps a 4th, but in the end its going to be a playoff team with an established #1, who is just looking for insurance. there are not many of the playoff teams that could need this right now (VGK / WPG / TOR / MTL / WASH?)

worst case for the Sens yes, as they will definitely finish #31 this year, and have no cornerstone players to build around.... so yah worst case.

atleast with the above they get back some higher picks, prospects, and trim $ where cheap Melnyuk can

I like the idea of reclaiming Allen, and I can see why swapping him for Anderson makes sense for Ottawa. Zack Smith has no place on the Blues 4th line though, and you are asking the Note to take on two more years of salary for a guy who has nowhere to play. That is not a good move from St. Louis' perspective. The Blues certainly would like to move Allen, but if you've watched STL in the past 6 weeks, Allen is not nearly as bad as he was during the first part of the year. He's just simply not cut out to be a number 1 goalie, but when he is a 1B or backup, he is pretty solid.

Perhaps you tweak your trade to Anderson and your 2019 2nd for Allen. I think that gets this deal done.
