If they can play like they did vs SJS

Created by: netminder71
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2019
Published: Feb. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Keep Bura. Work on the defense.

Given last night, the lines looked good, the PK was solid, Holtby was solid, and they manhandled a very good team (SJ).

Maybe changes are NOT req'd.

Find a pick or two out there for maybe Jaskin, Barber, Bowey, etc...and that's it
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (DET)
2.
WSH
  1. 2019 6th round pick (VGK)
3.
WSH
  1. Edler, Alexander ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. 2019 5th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Retention is to meet the Caps available space. More than half his salary for the year is paid by the deadline anyway.
Edler would be a straight up rental and would walk in the offseason. Add a conditional 3rd round pick "in case" he signs in DC.
VAN
  1. Barber, Riley
  2. Geisser, Tobias
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (WSH)
  4. 2020 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Edler = Barber + 2nd rounder
5th rounder = Geisser

They were dynamite. Boy it would be nice if they could just keep playing like this. They need to jar and pickle this game and try to replicate it many more times. Awesome effort by them.

Sharks lost the game more than the Caps won. They were making mistakes left and right and couldn't even pass out of the defensive zone well the entire night. I wouldn't get too excited.

Not to take anything away from the Caps, they played very well.

Very true...SJ looked EXACTLY like the Caps did vs C-Bus...flat, making mistakes, loose with puck in own zone, totally outplayed.

Why is everybody low on Bowey through the 2nd half of this year? I know he is raw but I’d still like to see how he develops. I’m not saying don’t trade him necessarily, just curious why everyone is looking to get rid of him all of a sudden.

I just think in the limited time we've seen him over 2 seasons that the team has felt we've seen his development slow and or regress. Djoos, Siegs, even Lewington seem like higher priorities and can play the right side. I don't blame them, maybe he is not going to develop like they thought.

I think Caps fans know the window is closing and they can't really wait out Bowey's slow development. His game is just sort of limited right now - it's not like he's similar to Djoos and can move the puck out with ease.

He reminds me of a less dynamic Orlov. Same kind of brutal mistakes Dima used to make. But he has more size and less offensive upside, so he looks eve more brutal.

I think Bowey is going to be a good top 6 dman. But he's a hard start sometimes the way he is now.

I think he's awesome, but to get a high 2nd pick back for him might yield someone just as good in another three years..... which means after the expansion draft. You can't really worry about who the team will or won't lose to Seattle, but a chance to load up on decent young players for afterwards would be interesting.

That said.... Edler's been out on IR for a bit. Is he back? Is he healthy? If he is that's a fair deal, with Barber as the main value going back. Might make the 2nd conditional on how many games he gets into?

Edler is not back yet but is projected to be back in the line up a few days prior to TDL. I thinkthe Caps should get a value pick for Bowey if they do anything..can call Siegs back up to be 7th man. Get a value pick for either Boyd, or Jaskin, or DSP (most likely Jaskin even though he had some very positive shifts last night). Call up Walker or Gersich....

Unless they make a move on Nyqvist.
I think Toffs is out. Same for anyone on LA...just does not seem to be a fit body for body.

Good stuff gents. Always appreciate the good discussion from you Caps fans/site contributors that are willing to share ideas and not be punks.
