Crosby basically shuts McDavid down every time they play. He's 6-0 vs him. After that last game against each other, I don't know how any can honestly still argue this.
Something tells me Crosby holds that spot till he's 33-34. At which point he will probably be looking at retiring.

Kessel and rantenen low.
Dubois and monahan low too.
JC and subban should both be 88.

It’s so tough to make these lists and you do like every day lmao I applaud you for that

because in the last 2 years mcdavid has been way better? seems basic

points
190 (2nd) mcdavid 137gp
155 (10th) crosby 136 gp

goals

72 (2nd) mcdavid
53 (34th) crosby

I mean this is basic stats but seems like the 2 major offensive categories mcdavid is in the top 2 and crosby is in the top 10 in one and outside the top 30 in the other..

also mcdavid is on a way less talented team. honestly there so many things that would point to him being better..... now if they were both 21 crosby all day.

Pharrow its crazy to compare players by thier records against one another. If McDavid had Malkin, Letang, Kessel and Matt Murray as his teammates and Crosby was playing on a line with Ty Rattie it would be a whole different story. its pretty much a consesus among everyone who knows anything about hockey that 97 has an edge over 87 now. Its amazing McDavid is even able to put up points with the talent he has around him on such a dysfunctional franchise.

Sorry guys I know i post the rankings a lot just looking for feedback and trying to fine tune them as best I can. I guess i have this fantasy that I will post the rankings one day and every person will be in agreement and think its the perfect list which I know is impossible.

I get bored at work a lot and look at different advanced stats and make adjustments to the rankings based on recent performance and comments from other CapFriendly members when a good argument is made as to why a player should be higher or lower.

I will start posting less frequently if it is annoying to others and maybe start doing every month or couple weeks or something. Anyways thanks for the feedback guys I really appreciate it.

Mcdavid is better but Crosby’s 200 foot game is so impressive. For a playoff game (where it matters) I’ll take Sid over anyone. Regular season I’ll take Mcdavid and his point totals. You can make compelling cases for both

can't argue that Sid is clutch but mcdavids 200 ft game is very underrated.....both are very great players and honestly my and your (assuming) generation will consider Sid ovi malkin among the best players all time bc we watched them for so long. they can do things that most players currently could never do and even at 30 they are competing with younger players for who's the best....these 2 (crosby and mcdavid) are competing for who is the best and theres 10+ years in age difference is he real compliment to crosby

100% Sid, Ovi, Geno in that order are the guys most dominate in the salary cap era. Can’t forget about Nick Lidstrom too (bit older) but it’s so hard to compare. I’m a pens fan and I admit Mcdavids better. It’s a shame his team is such a dumpster fire all because of Chirelli. He inherited 1st overall, Hall, Draistile, RNH, Eberle, Klefbom, Schultz, nurse, 15th overall (Barzel But they would’ve taken chabot) etc... what a core to build around. Idk how a GM could possibly mess that up so badly.

thanks yeah i enjoy the discussions that the ratings bring up. theres always a player that can be argued for being higher or lower and i like getting some different points of view especially from fans of different teams on why they think someone should be rated differently

such a waste of an incredible talent...its a shame McDavid doesnt have some better linemates like Mackinnon or 97’s point totals would be even more impressive. sucks hes hidden away up in Edmonton with such a poop franchise for the best years of his career

Stop being a homer.
Crosby built a career carrying people on his back. Go ask Sheary or Simon the latest two who Crosby carried on their back the last couple years as his line mates. The difference between Ty Rattie and both of them is that Crosby makes his wingers better. McDavid does not. If either one of those two were in Edmonton you'd be asking yourself why you got AHL wingers for McDavid, because that is exactly what Simon is, but somehow playing on Crosby's wing he managed 7 goals and 21 points in 48 games and looks like a decent player. You know the kind they will ship to Edmonton and Fleece them knowing better.
We aren't even talking about a team match up here. We are talking about a head to head. Which the Penguins do every time they get Edmonton. They put Crosby head to head with McDavid. And he's been the better player on the ice.
It's why Crosby was a +1 and McDavids was a -2 when they met.

Everyone who watched that game saw who was still the better player. McDavid losing track of people which ended up scoring a goal, and Crosby coming all the way across the ice to knock McDavid off the puck to stop a scoring chance.

One day McDavid will be the better player. After all they all age. But it's isn't today.

The stats don't tell the whole story. No one is talking about McDavid as a great defensive player. He's weak at faceoffs.
It's like saying Bergeron who has never been top in points or frankly even close has not been a top center. Hes' one of the hardest centers in the league to play against. He's just a tough match up.
So yeah, Sids numbers aren't what they use to be. OK. Come tell me he's still not the hardest match up for anyone out there.

goif 95 goiA 53
goif 64 goiA 63
goif 76 goiA 41

You tell me which player is which, then you will start to see the value in it. Especially when you realize who Crosby's wingers have been.
