Chaisson and Pirri are both overpaid in dollars and term. Chaisson should be traded at the deadline for the best pick you can get. For once the Oilers need to capitalize on a player over achieving, even if it means getting just a 3rd rounder. I’d be open to bringing him back in the offseason on a 1 or 2 year deal around $1.5M. The fact that he hasn’t scored in over a month shows how much of an outlier his first couple months here was.

I like the Silfververg signing. I think he’d be a great fit, but it sounds like staying in Anaheim is where he’s leaning towards right now. Dzingel is having a massive breakout year this year. I don’t think it would be wise by the Oilers to commit to a player like that. I if he returns to a 30-40 pt winger like he was the previous 2 seasons your stuck with another overpayment of a contract.

Toronto isnt doing Edmonton [that] favour.

Why not, Sammy? He's plus all three years on a dreadful Oilers defense and he's pretty cheap. Wouldn't he be better at #3RD than Oz or Holl?

He is not better than Oz in what is important, the defence. Also we are in cap trouble next season so I dont think getting more cap space locked into mediocre players is good way of handling business.

Fair enough. I've often been told that I put too much emphasis on plus-minus.

Well, I wish you (and similarly sophisticated aficionados) would take a look at Manning and Scott Mayfield and enlighten me on whether they would or would not be a good top-4 defenseman for the Maple Leafs, because either one would go a long way towards solving the cap problem if he is.
