Couple things

Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2019
Published: Feb. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tanev, oft injured for some help now in Gardiner as the Canucks have a shot at the playoffs but have been decimated by injuries, Ozzy can fill in fine with Dermott til Tanev is off IR (i actually like him and Dermott together, so do advanced metrics) , may have to add a diff piece than Holl, but, D depth is an issue right now. New Jersey needs some work to get to the cap next year (Ottawa fits the bill too) and a player like Coleman adds some grit to a 3rd-4th line. Gudas, i have a hard time judging his value on the market, could be higher than this return, but, i do think TO has the assets and he'd fit nicely with Dermot or Muzzin (would be a tough shutdown pairing to face). Both Tanev and Gudas contract bridge nicely to the next wave of Dmen like Sandin and Liljegrin as well.

Vancouver isn't moving Tanev for a rental. New Jersey has no need for Zaitsev, and moving Brown for Coleman is basically a wash.

You missed the entire point of the New Jersey transaction: he ISN'T "moving Brown for Coleman"; he's moving Brown AND ZAITSEV'S CONTRACT for Coleman.

That's what I'm saying. Brown for Coleman is a wash. Adding Zaitsev is just insulting for the Devils to even consider.

Toronto's cap situation can't absorb both Gudas' and Tanev's hits next year. Remember that between them, Matthews and Marner will probably get north of $20M from the figures shown here.

Yes, you sir are correct! But, i think Nylander (Brian Burke and others have suggested as well) gets moved in the offseason, as he's arguably the 3rd best RW on the team with the emergence of Kapanen (who they can bridge at lower cap hit). I do however think its more likley that they look at a rental depth D like McQuad or someone similar with their extra 4th rounder and B prospect.

Yeah, but it's hard to trade any of the top nine. Several of us have been able to construct 2019-2020 rosters keeping all 14 forwards and Rielly, Muzzin and Dermott together with Andersen by trading Zaitsev in the off-season.
