How Bad Is Ceci Really

Created by: ForsbergForVezina
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2019
Published: Feb. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I try to catch Ottawa games as much as possible (home games especially, I love their jerseys) and every game I've seen, Cody Ceci has looked okay -- not great, not awful. But when actual Sens fan talk about him, they want nothing to do with him. So what I'm wondering is is Ceci a good middle-bottom pairing defenseman that a team (good or bad) would be interested in trading for him and keeping him as a long term piece? What is his value and who may be interested in him?

He has some good games, and he has some really bad games. Has lost all confidence and could use a fresh start. He has been deployed wrong for his entire NHL career, and under new coaches and a more sheltered role, he could succeed as a 4th/5th defenceman. I could see him fetching a second and/or being swapped for another struggling player who is in need of a fresh start.

Watch him every night. Wish I could say he's a #4 but it's too difficult. Some nights he plays like a pretty good #3 (last night) and others he plays like a #6 that you don't want playing more than 12 minutes. But if a team has a good two way LD to pair him with, he would excel. And he's not a bad PKer either. I'd expect around a 2nd for him. Or 3rd and a decent prospect.

If he was playing 10 fewer minutes a game, he'd be a decent 3RD, but in his current role he is worse than useless.

There are worse players in the league, but most of them are guys who are way past their prime, like Johnson or Phaneuf. He's in his prime.

Apparently Kings are interested in him for whatever reason. I’m
Not a fan of him in OTT but maybe a team like the kings can turn his game around. If kings trade Martinez they’ll be thin on RD. Not sure what a trade would look like hopefully no more than a 2020 3rd or 4th and maybe a prospect that the kings aren’t high on goes the other way.

Alright, interesting to know. Watching some of his highlights just now he's got some good offensive instincts and a decent shot, but they're called highlights for a reason....

Personally, I think a change of scenery might do him some good and playing fewer than 20 minutes would help too. It's a shame he isn't better, the Sens could get a huge return for a right shot offensive defenseman in his mid 20s

At the very least, a change of scenery will do Sens fans some good
