How about this Leafs fans

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2018-19 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 18, 2019
Published: Feb. 18, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Unlikely since I still think it will cost us Dumba to get Willy, but in this scenario the Leafs get the Wild's best defenseman right now along with a long-term option in case Spurgeon walks in free agency. Zucker is having a down year but he's still a good player and would fit nicely in the Eastern Conference style of play. Spurgeon on the Leafs blue line would be a massive upgrade over Zaitsev. Not to take away from Zaitsev's game since he isn't a bad player, but Spurgeon is much better.

Once Dumba is healthy the plan would be to move Zaitsev to Brodin's pairing. I realize we are over the cap which means more moves would have to be made (likely Granlund or Coyle and Staal would be moved).

If Spurgeon's guaranteed to re-sign, they'd be stupid as heck to not accept this trade.

I think he would, especially if they plan to keep Ennis around (who is Spurgeon's best friend since they were like 2-3 years old). It would mainly just come down to money for the Leafs I'd think.

I'd say it's pretty easy for them to sign Spurgeon for a 5,5x6 contract after Marleau's contract expires.

Agreed, but they'll have to think about Rielly's next contract too. I guess it would all depend on how much the cap rises in the next 2-3 years.

This such a good trade for both side Minnesota gets a possibility a future #1 center and good shut down Defenseman in Zaitsev and paring him with Brodin would become a very good shutdown D paring as for the Toronto Trade Toronto Get a great 1/2 paring Defenseman is Spurgen and is a massive improvement on the blue line and a great player in Zucker as you stated he’s having a down year but play him with Matthews and he’ll have good numbers again.
