Hell no this does absolutely nothing for us, Burakovsky is a no go. And since when does a rebuilding team give up picks? Arizona's 7th rounder is conditional it doesn't belong to us. You're not getting Nyquist without at least Bowey coming our way. Detroit needs D prospects not more wingers same thing with Winnipeg both teams have influx of wingers. No way Detroit would ever accept this. I can tell you one thing right now, You're not getting Nyquist at half retention without the Caps 2019 1st rounder being involved.

Caps would do that for AA, not a rental like Nyquist.

Detroit isn't doing that for either of them. It starts with a first rounder

I don't know about that. Johansen has top pairing ability. Hobbs has 2nd pairing ability. Burakovsky would put up 50 points with Larkin. DET is getting exactly what they need: young, fast skilled players for the future. Caps are actually overpaying a bit.

I agree Detroit gets a 1st and no picks dealt or no deal. Burk and a 1st is fine otherwise no go

Some Habs fans seem okay trading Tatar for Burakovsky, Jaskin, 2nd. Tatar is almost as good as NyQuil, but younger, with term remaining. It's still a loss for the Caps, but not as brutal.

A lot.

Cheaper to clear the table, and offer just the first pick they want, if it'll cover both the above rentals.

HARDPASS ! Anyone that thinks the wings should get 1st and this is high!

Haha lol at the guy who said Detroit needs d prospects and this wouldn’t happen......buddy you’re getting 2/ 3rds of our top d prospects in this trade. Idk if your being funny or just stupid?

I would add a 1st and take away either Hobbs or Luca jo and shoot for stone.

Caps need Hobbs. I’d gladly trade Bowey though

The funny thing about your comment is you’re getting Washington’s best rhd prospect and our 2nd best lhd prospect. You clearly have no idea who the players are in this trade. Hahaha

Like wtf are you talking about? “We need d prospect not wingers” hahaha smh this does a lot for you considering your quoted needs haha

It's likely that most of the Wings fans passing on Burakovskyare valuing him based on his slow start to the year, coming off a broken wrist, not off his recent run of seven even strength points in nine games in the Caps'bottom six.

This is also likely true of the Caps fans trading him for rentals. Or, in this case, the Rangers fan doing so.

I would never trade 2 dman in our top 3 prospect pool for a rental. Just drains us. Esp since both these guys don’t bring much......

A Habs fan is trading Tatar, with two years remaining, for Burakovsky and a 2nd: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/202658

Counting Johansen as a 1st and Hobbs as about a 2nd, that comes out cheaper than this, even after trading a 4th for Fehr, who is like an older, cheaper Glendening.

Tatar's only on pace for 61 points, compared to Nyqist's 67. Each target is about 14 over their previous respective career highs, so it's probably unsustainable. Do they often have good falls, and weak Springs? Tatar was a disappointing rental for Vegas.... would Nyquist be any different? If each is likely able to keep outplaying Burakovsky (who recently had seven even strenght points in a stretch of nine games) down the stretch, when teams hit harder and bigger guys start to shine.... then obviously three years of Tatar at a lower asking price beats one year of Nyquist at a higher asking price? Right???

The wise move is to keep Burakovsky while he's trending back upwards, and bank on the likelihood that he puts together a 30 goal season before he's 28, but the conventional wisdom would say that Tatar, who has a thirty goal season and is on pace for 25 this year provides better secondary scoring than Nyquist, who does not, who is two years older, and is on pace for 21.

I'm not sure either gets an audition on the top line, so while Nyquist's playmaking could help Oshie's goal totals a bit, Tatar would give the team a third proven thirty goal scorer to be the focal point of a third line. If Burakovsky must go for an aging rental that doesn't backcheck or kill penalties, three years are better than one? Or, as @Capitalfail67 may have suggested a few times, two years of Kreider could fit the Caps' needs better than one year of a lot of non-checking forwards?

Burakovsky's a year younger than AA with 38 more NHL points, counting playoffs, in spite of a few long term injuries that he may have rushed back from. Burakovsky has three more two-goal playoff games (3), including game seven against Tampa, but AA's single season even strength goal total is one higher, and climbing. Burakovsky's also showing some potential on penalty kill, currently leading Washington in 4-on-5 corsi for %.

Better not to get Bura involved for an older, less consistent young player who has just as many question marks defensively, but if AA is available for a 1st, plus.... that seems like something Washington should really look at, if Oshie can be placed on LTIR to create cap space, without having to gut a championship roster. Probably throw in Jaskin and Geisser?

This might mean giving Niskanen away for a song in the summer, or having to listen to offers on Holtby, but keeping Niskanen as a rental until there are UFAs available with half his experience still makes sense.

AA is still developing as a player where bura seems to have hit his ceiling. I just don't love the player. Id take him in a deal for nyquist I guess but putting it as him or AA I'll keep AA.

And you're replying to a post (edit: a comment, actually) offering a late 1st, a B prospect, and a cap dump for AA, after explaining why Burakovsky, a year younger with 38 more NHL points at a lower cap hit than AA, is not that cap dump, and not even part of the conversation.

I don't think the Caps are interested in moving Burk (no matter what the beat writers say), or Johansen. Contending teams typically don't like moving prospects for rentals (unless the rental is WAY over the top, think Panarin), mainly because the better the devil you know (your prospect) then the devil you don't (the draft pick). Teams like the devil they got.

Also, this is the reason why players like Gaustad command 1st round picks (he has 17 points in 56 games at the time of his trade). Teams are rolling the dice that those late 1st round picks don't pan out (success rate that low in the 1st round is just about 55% of playing 100 games). Fans hear 1st round pick, and they think of top 10 picks. When a top team trades pick #30, it was THAT long ago that it was a 2nd round pick, pick #60 was a 3rd rounder, etc. The success percentages on those picks haven't increased much as the size of the league has increased.

You're talking like the Caps are in 1st place. They've just climbed to 9th. This pick you're trying to get rid of, could be #22.

Obviously it isn't as valuable as the three top prospects that Nashless is giving away for two rentals, but all that needs to be said is that he's a Rangers fan and has no idea what he's talking about.

Boys, don't get ur panties in a bunch. Just trying to add depth up front for an obviously tired and hungover team. Gotta do something while the window is open. Two Fs and two late picks for three young players that may not even be in long term plans, while not giving up picks. Bura is Bura, Hobbs will max out as 6/7d? Chances are if/when Lucas makes it, it won't be as a top 4? ??

Hobbs led Hershey's defensemen in points halfway through the year, then got hurt.

Lucas Johansen reportedly looks NHL ready each year in training camp. He's got plenty of skill and there's no reason he shouldn't eventually make an impact.

If the league ever starts suspending people for stick fouls that break bones, Burakovsky will play 80 games a year, and score 50 points a year. He recently put up 7 even strength points in nine games, starting at 4R and earning his old spot back at 3L next to Eller.

Nyquist staying in Washington means no raise for Vrana, so Nyquist definitely walks as a UFA.

You're renting a 30 year old perennial 40 point guy having a big year thanks to linemates. You get him for a couple months at the cost of a future perennial 40 point guy who's 24, and whom either of these teams can easily re-sign this summer, for two years at 3.3M aav, if they have his RFA rights.

Nyquist is on pace for the biggest year of his career, at thirty... in a contract year... Burakovsky is 8th in his draft class in career goals, just ahead of Anthony Mantha and Max Domi.

Last year Nyqist played the whole season with Zetterberg and got 40 points. Z was still pretty decent, last year.

This year most of his points seem to involve Dylan Larkin, with a lot of them also featuring Mantha, and a couple assists to Vanek or Abdelkader. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/n/nyquigu01/scoring/2019

Moving him to Washington where he might not get as many minutes and might not necessarily get a top six spot.... he might slow down to a 40 point pace, or less. If he plays with Backstrom, maybe he stays on a sixty point pace, but then Oshie plays with Connolly and Eller, and I don't think that line is as productive as Burakovsky, Eller, Connolly.

So you haven't added significant offense to this year's Caps, and you've given up 40 points next year, plus two top defensive prospects.
