Take out Brannstrom and it might make sense. keep in mind theyre also taking Lucic which loses the value of the 1st

haha idk where to start

leafs trade
kap for Larsson would be closer to fair

knights trade

tuch alone would cost you a 1st
Brännström wouldn't be traded
miller would cost you a 1st
and lucic would cost you a 1st and poolparty at least to dumb him....you also have to retain salary

so this trade would cost you 3 1st round picks and a few prospects..... this is assuming edm
doesnt get the lottery pick which is stupid to trade ha

He says 2019 1st overall pick. If you have to take Lucic for a franchise #1 centre, then that deal might not need Brannstrom out of it.

I don't think Larsson is on the Leafs radar if they are giving up Kappy.

also 2/4 1st overall picks have worked out for EDM so far, i'm sure it'd be less of a hassle for them to simply trade it

1st OVERALL.

"this is assuming edm doesnt get the lottery pick" im simply giving you the trade values of the players in the trade.

your title is hitting the reset button but you trade the 1st overall pick in draft where the top pick could be matthews/eichel good. seems stupid not to be mean

this is more like trading away bad pieces to get back to where they were when they won the mcdavid lottery and everyone assumed they would win a cup in the next 3 years, except this time all the moves they make to accelerate the rebuild actually help them (looking at you griffin reinhardt and adam larsson)

you could just achieve that by keep the lottery pick and trading players like nurse rnh or Leo drai...... I wouldn't risk trading away a top 3 pick in this draft. the players are too good

Any time a trade involves the 1st overall, its a bad trade.

There are ways to get rid of Lucic for far less. It may not involve getting rid of all of his salary but EDM doesn't need to. All they need to do is get enough relief from that contact to be worth it. They need to get more relief than his almost buyout proof contract gives them. Anything above that is gravy.

You are talking about moving Jack Hughes here. Even if Tuch, Miller and Brannstrom are good, you simply do not trade the 1st overall.

those players you named aren't the problem. nurse leon RNH are all actually on pretty good contracts, but the thing is those are the only guys teams will want to trade for, except for maybe kassian or larsson/klefbom. Draft picks are the only trade pieces they have.

Fair enough, but from an oilers fans' perspective, this may be the only quick option they have.

Agreed. If someone offered a haul like Quebec did for Lindros, it might work out well. But three or four middle-six players (for instance) do not equal 1 superstar. There are only so many superstars in the world and there are plenty of teams that lack one, so someone might overpay for Hughes. But generally, it's not worth it to make the deal.

I don't think a quick alternative is even possible. The fastest though? Keep those 1st overall superstars coming. That is the fastest way. By the time Hughes is up for a new contract, Lucic's will almost be over.

Players who are one of your teams best players on a ELC is the most valuable piece in all of hockey.

To hit the reset button you would have to go back to 2008 and get rid of Daryl Katz.
You may need a new owner more than Ottawa. Now that's saying something.
