Hope for the best; plan for the worst.
McCollum gives the Predators insurance in the event of multiple injuries to their netminders. With a 35y starter, and in spite of Rinne’s historically good record for health, it’s not the worst idea. McCollum has been playing with Milwaukee (Predators AHL affiliate) until today on an AHL-only contract. His AHL pay is likely the same as it was yesterday so it is just an insurance policy in case Rinne AND Saros go down as now McCollum is eligible to play in the NHL (yesterday he couldn’t on his AHL contract)..
Hopefully, for Predators fans, they never get to see McCollum in net during the playoffs. That would indicate things have NOT gone according to plan.
