The Stars organization signs Hanley for 2 more seasons. They’re obviously happy with the leadership role he plays while in Austin and feels he is a good 8th/9th D-Man option in the event of injuries (otherwise they would have just offered an AHL deal).

The Texas Stars have the lowest roster turnover amongst veterans in the AHL, and have valued signing and keeping players that fit in well. I would bet that come September (if not sooner) Hanley will wear a letter on his sweater and could one day be Captain. The Texas Stars had a long-running Captain in Defence in future AHL Hall-of-Famer Maxine Fortunas and they haven’t really replaced that role since he left a few years ago.
