Thought it would be interesting to take a look at this deal after bring up Coyle as a trade value for Strome. Since the trade:

Donato - 84GP / 18G / 21A / 39PTS / 0.46 PGP / +15 GvTk Diff / 34.5 xGF
Coyle - 91GP / 18G / 25A / 43PTS / 0.47 PGP / +9 GvTk Diff / 44.1 xGF

What's interesting is their numbers with their new teams are similar, however Donato saw his role decrease this season going from 15 minutes a night to 10 minute a night. He started off hot last year with Minny with 16pts in 22gp (60pt pace) and this year managed 23pts in 62gp (30pt pace).

Coyle was able to be a pretty big contributor for the SC run last year finishing 5th on the team in points trailing only Bergeron (by 1pt), Krug (by 2pts), Pasta(3pts) and Marchand (by 7pts).

As much as I don't hold the same expectation for Coyle as other B's fans, I'm confident Bruins fans are still very happy with this trade. I haven't been following Donato much since he left, so I'm not sure if Minny fans still feel the same way.

What are everyones thoughts on this deal a little over a year later?

I think boston wins this in a landslide right now. They got the all around center they were looking for, for relatively cheap trade wise. now does that mean donato doesnt grow into something down the road absolutely not. But the major problem i had with him in boston, and the major problem he is still having in minnesota is size. He plays small. He gets tossed around WAY too easily. He has a good shot but he is too trigger happy. He is just too easy to play against and thats kind of a problem.

Stats aside i think coyle brings something to the table they were missing for a little bit and at least last year stepped his game up significantly when it mattered.
