Stars swoop in on Duchene Sweepstakes

Created by: jasonstreiter
Team: 2018-19 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 21, 2019
Published: Feb. 21, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Stars trading for Duchene actually makes a lot of sense. Duchene would be a key player if they want to try to get out of the first round this year but they would more likely be looking to the future with his trade. They'll have cap space this summer after Spezza's contract ends so they could sign Duchene to a long term deal to be their top secondary scorer.
Trades
1.
DAL
  1. Duchene, Matt ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. 2019 4th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Duchene signes 8 year extension with $8,000,000 AAV.

Ottawa is reportedly desperate to trade Duchene. They would look to develop both of them and hope that Nichuskin can return to his best.
OTT
  1. Carrick, Connor
  2. Nichushkin, Valeri
Additional Details:
The additions of the draft picks are so Ottawa will agree to retain salary, paying nearly half of Duchene's salary for the remainder of the season
2.
DAL
  1. Jensen, Nick
Additional Details:
The stars have a great group of young top 3 defenseman in Klingberg, Hesikanen, and Lindell (who signs a 4 year extension with an AAV of $3,500,000). Jensen (who signs a 2 year deal with an AAV of $2,000,000) helps them round out their a solid young top four, while giving Honka more time to develop. When steven johns returns they’ll have an exceptional group of young defenseman
DET
    Rights to:
Albin Erikssen: RW, Sweden, pick #44 in 2018 Draft)
Joseph Ceconni: D, University of Michigan, pick #133 in 2015

Nuke+Carrick for an extended Duchene, Are you kidding? No way Dorion accepts this both Columbus+Nashville that are linked to Duchene can beat this offer. Duchene wants 8 x 9 or 7 x 9 from teams not named Ottawa. Nuke is garbage and Carrick has no value need to offer far better then this.

Duchene should get a better return in a trade . But Dallas seems like a good destination fo Duchene as UFA. Jensen certainly gets more than 2m/ 2 years a UFA.

The way he's playing her deserves more than 2m for 2years, but GMs may be wary because he could be a one season wonder, it took him until this year when he's 28 to really break out so he might be considered a risk for more money and time. Had he been this good for a couple of years or if he were few years young he would definitely get more

I agree, this just a hypothetical. Theres definitely going to be better offers and this obviously isnt realistic, but if it comes down to the last ten minutes on deadline day and those teams have made other moves this would be a great move for dallas, Senators are in for a long rebuild anyw

I see no reason for Detroit to make this trade.

Both of these trades are so seriously lopsided in Dallas' favor. Ottawa laughs, hangs up, and deletes your number. Detroit trade isn't awful, but still isn't where it needs to be from a Red Wings perspective.
