Description

Even while not playing to his top potential, Stars get a better puck moving Defenseman in Shattenkirk than what Honka provides. Namestnikov basically matches Spezza's numbers, and for an extra year at half the Cap hit. No picks given up. Outside of Hintz, mostly dead weight sent to New York.

Rangers get Cap relief and a decent Prospect in Hintz. Nichushkin and Honka are reclamation projects that have worn out there welcome in Dallas. Could benefit from change of scenery. Spezza a Cap dump.

Nopeee definitely not moving Hintz. He's a top 6 player for us right now and playing like one too.

Also Jason Spezza recently said he would not accept a trade anywhere. Says he would turn down anything because he wants to remain here and close with his family.

Shattenkirk and Namestnikov both have ugly contracts too so this doesn't really make any sense for Dallas, although Namestnikov I'd have some interest in but not for this price

Even though this trade has some sense in it, in my opinion Dallas should decline it, just because it prevents them from doing any further strengthening at the offseason, because at the July 1st, they'd have almost $8M less money than without this trade. The pieces coming back are simply not worth $8M plus losing Hintz.

Understandable. Was focused more on Spezza's NTC, which the Rangers aren't on. Figured Nichushkin and Honka had become undesirable enough that they could be part of the move. If Hintz was removed altogether (and Spezza agreed to the move) would that make it work?
