Rasmus Andersson is a very good young player who would get more than a 2nd back

Dude you are not even close to value on Rasmus Anderson. the way he has played this year makes his value at a future top 4 possibly top 2 (he looks unreal playing next to gio) defenseman. and garret sparks is barely an improvement over smith so i think we will stick with experience.

a top 4 right shot defense man is worth way more than a 2nd round pick

Your right, but if you read above it says Flames do the deal that ships Smith for little to no salary back while still getting assets back so they can acquire Stone and sign him long term.

Sorry dude still makes 0 sense for the flames. Andersons value would be better served as part of the stone deal then as a chip to clear cap space. if Calgary goes for stone there will likely be a cap dump like frolik or smith included in that trade so there is no need to involve Toronto

also if toronto can trade smith for bittner why cant calgary. what it boils down to in your trade is you get bittner (solid prospect) and anderson (top 4 defenseman) for a 2nd and oziganov and that trade is incredibly one sided

I wouldn't move Andersson for Stone, so why would we take on a marginally better goalie and significantly worse d man just to get Stone?

yes but that doesnt make him any less valuable. wouldn't you want the leafs to have 5 top 4 defense man (brodie, hanifin, hamonic, anderson, kyllington, valimaki are in my mind all top 4 defense man on most teams) in stead of a mediocre third pairing. he is also young and will be the future for the flames

edit: giordano is obviously top pair

So just because Erik Karlsson plays on the second pairing means that he is a 3/4 d man? No he is an elite defenseman on a good team, Andersson is first of all a rookie playing sheltered minutes, they won't split up Gio and Brodie, Hamonic is the top defending d man on the team. Andersson played with Gio 3 games ago and looked incredible, Brodie can't play with anyone else though. Just the way it goes.
