Ottawa salvages a pretty good return. Jarmo putting all his chips at the center of the poker table. Bold move for a team that isn’t even in a playoff spot as of now and has no primer on what will happen with Bob and Bread Man.

The only ways it's a good return is if Duchene re-signs with Columbus. 2 minor prospects and a 1st if he doesnt.....Does Duchene even want to play in Columbus????

Duchene isn't worth all of this. Columbus would be foolish to resign him after this season

If Columbus resigns Duchene then Columbus wins the trade but if he doesnt then that was a massive payment for a rental , Columbus better make it far in the playoffs their time is almost up

Hats off to Jarmo for trying to keep Panarin this way. In a scenario of so many bad outcomes this seems to be the best. I was hoping for something like this.

Best case for CBj is

TB - CAR
NYI - PIT
TOR - BOS
WSH - CBJ

They avoid a buzzsaw in TB, and something magical in NYI
They almost beat WSH last year, and have improved their odds for a rematch
MTL is dropping out because of a bad road record, PIT's will slip because they aren't finishing strong

maybe
TB - CBJ
TOR - NYI <----would be awesome

would love CBJ to take out TB in round 2. I feel like TB, SJ, WSH, PIT are all going to play dirty hockey and injuries or suspensions could just take us anywhere

You think 2 prospects and a 1st round pick (not top3) is a "massive payment" for a rental such as Duchene and a prospect/depth player?

Huge win for OTT. CBJ is all in w/ Panarin and Duchene. Even bigger win for OTT if Duchene re-signs w/ OTT, but that probably won't happen.

Not to mention a solid Plan B if the breadman leaves town. The league is becoming a game of musical chairs and Duchene might not find another top line seat if he gives up his CBJ one, at least if he wants the top line salary to go with it

CBJ needs to avoid PIT in round 1 and TBL in round 3. I think they match up well against every other team in the East. I think they have to be considered a real contender right now.

I'll say Ottawa wins but Columbus might, too. I get that he might be a rental, but the goal is to win the Stanley cup. Still though, risky move from CBJ.

Yeah I don't think CBJ over payed here.
it's a 1st, which is expected on this caliber of a rental. Then you are looking at the Prospects. Abramov is an interesting prospect. He wasn't really lights out for the Monsters this year like CBJ wanted him to be. Only 12 goals on the season for a guy who really can't play below the 2nd line due to his size. That's not gonna get you to the NHL. He is only 20 though. But you would have liked to see more there if you are CBJ. I don't think he is going to really blossom. Davidsson is like nothing. He's 21 and still playing in europe. He's done ok over there, but that really tells you all you need to know. If he had the skills he'd be in the NHL by that age. He was a 6th round pick so the odds of him getting to that level were already slim.

If MD resigns CBJ gives up 2 firsts. If he doesn't they basically gave up a 1st for a high end rental. It's really not bad. Something tells me Ottawa could have done better, but probably didn't want to help a few other teams.

Duchene wasn't re-signing... That's the bottom line. We know this to be fact... because it didn't happen. IF OTT could have made that work, then they would have. SO....OTT did a pretty good job finding return. Vitaly is developing nicely and they still got at least (1) 1st.

It's all-in or fold here for CBJ. Either spend big and try to make a run or sell off Panarin and Bob. I think Jarmo is playing it right here.

It will be tough, but I expect MTL to make the playoffs and play TB.

1 mid 1st, or 2 late 1sts does not replace even 2 more years of minutes from Duchene

OTT got something, which is better than nothing, but they didn't particularly hurry up the day when the team could be a contender again. Their biggest gain is freeing up ice time to audition a lot of players, and dropping in the standings to get a higher draft pick. However if there is any crackdown on corruption and lobbying, the franchise will be cutting spending to the bone and scouting or player development will be dropping off

If not now, when?

Respect to Jarmo and Columbus for living in the moment and owning their future

Could be 2 Firsts if he resigns (finally read and understood the conditions) so it does change my opinion a bit

Right now as in today. We don't know how Duchene will mesh with his new team on the PP or w/ his new line-mates. On paper, they seem to have greatly improved, but CBJ is currently out of a playoff spot and they have a lot of work to do still to make the playoffs.

This is actually a great deal for the Sens in a vacuum. But it's horrible asset management.

Colorado Avalanche
Kyle Turris
Shane Bowers
2019 1st round pick (OTT)

Ottawa Senators
Vitali Abramov
Jonathan Davidsson
2019 1st round pick (CBJ)
Possible 2020 1st round pick (CBJ)

Yeah... that's pretty bad.
