Published: Feb. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If anyone wants more info on the Prospects Ottawa received keep reading below.

Ottawa Reveived Columbus’ #1 prospect in VItaly Abramov, Abromov is a small forward with a ton of skill gets points and gets them in bunches. All 3 seasons he played In The QMHL he had 100 points or (In the case of his first season) was on a 100 point pace for a full season. Was selected for Team Russia international team 3 times. Projected as a Top 6 forward to make his NHL debut sometime late this season, for sure next season. Had the chance to watch him play a few times while he was In The Cleveland monsters and he works hard with a ton of speed. Is having a pretty decent first professional season all things considered with 22 points in 52 games for Cleveland

Davidsson is interesting to make he was a late pick of Columbus in 2017 played his entire career for Djurgårdens IF I had him ranked as the 3/4th best prospect for Columbus nothing crazy special about him he’s not a huge player but he gets points and he’s quite effective. Makes his line mates better around him. projected Middle 6.

Abramov was a total disappointment for the monsters. "gets points in bunches" where??? Not on the monsters.
Maybe he turns it around, but he's running out of time. He didn't flash in cleveland and it showed on the stats sheet. If he would have I think they would have kept him. I think they gave up on him.

Abromov is in his FIRST ever professional season out of Junior, has 22 points in 50 games after lighting up the QMHL with 2 Seasons in a row with 104 Points, i think its naive to say a team gave up on a prospect in their first professional season. Specifically since Abromov is only 20 years old. If Abromov gets this full season and maybe half a season in the AHL next year i think he can pretty easy be a 40-50 point player by 2020-2021

I love how people think prospects are supposed to just come from juniors and tear it up.

When I first saw this trade I thought Wow, what a haul for Ottawa. Than the more I looked at it, it really isn't all that much. I have watched Abramov play alot in Cleveland this year, incredible skill, skates well, Not blazing speed but faster than average. Good shot when he has time and space to shoot it. Lacks some hockey IQ, needs to add weight and strength, has a hard time getting to the hard areas. He reminds me alot of Tyler Ennis. I think that is best case scenario for him, a nice career, could spend time in your top 6 on a bad team but really is a 3rd line scoring winger. Davidson is questionable to even become an NHLer at this point. 21 years old and struggling in the Swedish league. Essentially if Duchene doesn't resign this is mid first rounder, a potential 3rd line scoring winger and a career AHL foward for Duchene. Not all that great of a haul considering.

So what. Go put his numbers up against some of the other recent prospect in their 1st professional season. Sprong tore the AHL up in his 1st season. He has played decent for ANA but not great. He at least looked the part though in the AHL. Donato in boston played really well in the AHL in his 1st professional season, given he's a bit older. But he probably won't have the impact that Sprong will.

My point is, it doesn't matter if it's your first professional season. Many players come in their 1st season and play very well. There was an expectation on him. He clearly didn't hit it.
Having seen him play I can see why.
He was expected to come in and bring the same dominance to inferior competition he did in the junior leagues. That didn't happen. It wasn't even close. He looked average out there. His size didn't help him either. You can't come in a 5'9 and not be an offensive machine. He wasn't.

My only concern from this trade is being forced to call up Batherson, id much prefer Batherson stay in the AHL and help the BSens try and make the playoffs. Give him time to develop and have him as your 2nd Line C next season.

They shouldn’t mess with the BSens. Make another trade or pick someone from waivers

It seems the prospects were more of an "extra" in this trade with the main focus being on the 2 first round picks.

IMO the breakdown is:

1 B+ Prospect
1 C+ Prospect
1 First
1 Conditional First

In fairness to Abramov, Madden is a terrible coach, he plays the veterans more than the young guys and hasn't given Abramov much of a chance to play in Cleveland. Monsters had a game against Binghamton 2 weeks ago, Abramov was the best player on the Monsters all day scored a pair of goals including the tying goal (3-3) with 5 mins to go in the third to force OT. He didn't even see a shift till halfway thru the OT period. Madden just doesn't seem to like him, best thing that happened to him today is getting out of Cleveland and away from Madden.

I was hoping they did not call up Batherson (They just did) because a Batherson-Abromov line would get me excited

I don't think it's on Madden. He played 52 games this year. It's not like he was on the 4th line. He just wasn't all that impressive. They expected more. I'm sure they were hoping he'd come in and score 30 goals this year. It didn't happen. Superior talent finds a way. You want to see your AHL players at a point per game or at least close unless they are really there to play defense, which he isn't.

Batherson looks like a solid player. It will be interesting to see if he makes the jump.

He certainly hasn’t been all that I hoped he’d be, but look at guys like Jaden Schwartz, Tyler Bertuzzi, Michael Ferland, Chris Kreider, Mike Hoffman, Anthony Mantha, and Josh Anderson. They didn’t light it up in the AHL, but now they can play in a top six role consistently. I’d wait on him. Players also are not transitioning the same way that they used to. Also, Cleveland is an awful team to transition on. When Gerbe, Milano, Korostelev, Dalpe, Letestu, Broadhurst, Bittner, and Robinson are being played over you, there’s not a ton of opportunity. Abramov immediately become the 2RW on Belleville. I’d be surprised if he can’t turn it around and score at a better level. Obviously Ottawa is high on him, so he might be given a top line opportunity too. Columbus gave up on him. Kinda like Milano. And by the way, Marchessault as well. Proper development goes a long ways towards determining a prospects outcome.

Players have to enter the game faster these days. You can't sit in the minors till you are 25. Careers are ending in the early 30s now.
You look at some of the players you are mentioning. Milano is a 1st rounder, Bittner is a 2nd rounder. They are only 22. Milano has a lot of talent. It just hasn't worked out for him. But he has definitely flashed at the NHL level.
They are better pedigree in my opinion.
I really can't blame it on being in cleveland. No matter what the situation is, if you are getting ice time in 52 games, if you are more talented it will show.
If you stuck a Jack Huges in cleveland, his talent would show. He wouldn't be there long.
So at some point it just is what it is. I think his size is part of his issue. You add lack of size and inability/unwillingness to play defense with not lighting the lamp up and that equals teams giving up on you.
Maybe he does better with a change of scenery. Then again, just making the Ottawa roster doesn't mean anything. They are officially desperate for talent at this point.
