2nd round pick and bowey for at best a 3rd pairing defensemen. Not a very good trade for Washington

Big win for Washington. A #4D for an absolutely awful spec/fringe NHLer and a late 2nd. @Eli will be sad tho LOL

Red Wings win this deal in the longterm but the Caps add some NHL now defense to their squad. Good for the Caps right now.

DET major win. 3rd pair Dmen are getting CRAZY returns. Cole, Kempny, Holden, Brandon Davidson all got 3rds last year...now we're see a 2nd for an arguably slightly better player.

***EDIT*** Just don't turn around and give him a 4 year $10M contract!!!! Learn from your mistakes!

I think this move by Washington was another way to grab a right handed shooting Defensemen before Pittsburgh could land him. Smart move by the Caps.

Don't underestimate Jensen. He's sound defensively, a good puck mover, an excellent skater, and he's extremely adaptive/persistent. He passed like 4-5 players in the depth chart to be 2nd on the team with TOI and be the top PK'er on the team. I mean we made off like bandits, but that is by no means a bad trade for WSH.

I love the Kempny deal....hes easily our best defensive dman.......we aren't good defensively but that doesnt make what I said any less true

We used to think Jensen was super underrated; now we can say that he's properly rated. DET wins for the time being, but this could easily change to "fair deal" if WSH re-signs him.

Jensen could be Kempny 2.0. Bit of an overpayment but if they go far in the playoffs who cares?

Jensen is underrated. Good deal. Remember it’s most likely a late 2nd so almost a 3rd.

Relatively fair deal. Could be an under the radar move that helps the caps come playoff time. Bowey wasn't anything special, the second will be a later second. Jensen could be a rental but they could resign him. Although at a cap hit slightly higher than his current really cheap one.

Quite a bit to give up for Jensen, but it could work for the Caps. Hard to tell so far.

SOMEBODY HELP ME. I don't understand why Detroit adding another D. So Holland's plan is to keep Cholowski and Hronek in the AHL for another season?
This F@#$ing guy!!!!!! Just as I start thinking Holland does knows what he's doing he goes and does this!
I don't even care about value at this point and I was planning on Jensen being traded. But bringing in a veteran D puts Detroit back in the same mess we dealt all year long.

How is Bowey a veteran? Good trade for the wings but not terrible for caps

Decent deal for both. Caps trying to improve their PK, and Jensen can definitely boost this. Jensen is a bit underrated and Bowey isn't that good. Maybe he can improve at Detroit, but a fair deal imo

That much is true so I guess there is a valid point here that he adds to the logjam. But let’s say the Wings play this one out the following way. They believe Bowey needed a change of scenery, give him a chance as the second pairing rhd. Green is 1 rhd and Hronek slots in to be the third. They forget about Daley and Ericsson, either trading them or limiting their action. And let’s not forget, Green, Daley, E get injured enough so there should be ways to get Bowey, Cholo and Hronek all in the lineup. As long as Kronner doesn’t come back ... Green gets traded at the tdl next year and E and Daley are gone after the year, they should be able to manage this

Bowey is 24 and hadn’t cracked our roster full time yet. I don’t mind giving him up if it means we get the extension. The coaching staff had lost faith in him. It sucks, but it’s better to get something for him before he becomes worthless

Just a thought for CapFriendly .... you might consider adding teams (approx 90 reserve list to the team's lists), it might be easier to track who's got whom. Additionally, i want to say that the reserve lists should be expanded, in my opinion to meet the current salary cap expansion. Remember 90 reserve list was fine when salary cap was in the 50+ million, just saying.

If there is little interest Green no way we move Daley and Ericsson. Yeah they have 1yr left buy them out or just cut them those 2 roster spots are more important than cap hit.

You can ruin a prospect by playing him to soon right? Well that works both ways, Cholowski and Hronek have proven they can play in the NHL and better than about half of our D. Take Evgeny Svechnikov 2016-2017 preseason he played great then he didn't get called up till the end of the season and he hasn't been the same since. That's just the prospect side of it.

A lot of the veteran players won't be here when Detroit becomes a contender. Even if we have a lot talent that doesn't equal playoffs and/or Stanley cup. A team needs to learn to play with each other. Bring in and keeping vets that probably won't be in Detroit when they become a contender. Just takes away time Detroit's core to play together. I'm not lumping Bowey in to that group as he could end up being a really good player. My problem isn't with Bowey its the roster spot for a player we don't need.
